I took my boat out for the first time today (2002 4.3 MPI #OM322808) and noticed alot of water in the bilge area. Upon closer examination, I noticed what I believe is the check valve assembly broke in half. I believe its the valve assembly between the power streering cooler and cool fuel box according to the diagram in my manuel. I believe its just plastic. Is this a common problem for this to split in half? Is it an easy fix that one can do themselves?

Re: Check valve

I Forgot to mention it located right behind the exhaust manifold towards the back of the boat

Re: Check valve

Not a common problem, easy enough to tackle yourself, if you're handy with a screwdriver. Part number is 21-864206A1 (about $24). It's actually located behind the manifold on the LEFT hand side....

Re: Check valve

Left side meaning port side right? That's it then. Only problem I have is there are ear clamps on the hoses and getting in there to cut them off is going to be a pain because of the tight space. Thanks for the help

Absolutely correct... Replace them with conventional hose clamps...
Port side of the left side right.... :D

Re: Check valve

I assume you got this replaced. I have these on my engines also. What are they for? Is this the mechanism to prevent hot water from siphoning down into the fuel cooler, potentially causing vapor lock? Do they ever fail to do their job (without exploding like yours)?

Thanks,
