So at my Boat Club/Marina, there is a large Sportfish boat sitting out back. Derilect, ugly, abused etc... After seeing an ad online, it appears it might actually be a 40' Chrisovich. Although I haven't found a lot of info, and they don't appear to be worth gold, it would be kind of neat to find out more about them. It sounds as though they were a Chris Craft fishing boat that might have had Rybovich influences.

The issues with the one at my club, are although it looks very close to one, a few things look not exact. It is missing a strake along the side that is very Rybovich'esque. The side window layout also looks slightly different.

I know grabbing a hull ID would tell the tale, but I figure posting this might get me some info I haven't found yet.

Not sure who owns it, or if there would even be money involved. It's had a hard life, or at least the past few years.

That would be such an awesome project if you had a nice chunk of money & time!! I'd absolutely LOVE a boat like that in wood if money was no object :)

Now is the time to find a friend to bankroll and share the boat/split any profits.

That boat could be awesome...or it could be a POS.

The hull has hatteras lines but the house doesn't. So far the Chrisovich is hands down the closest looking boat. It sure is striking on land. I'd imagine a pair of big blocks are in her as well.

"Tumblehome"? -- Not much on that hull.
Not a Hatteras.
Chrisovich (?) Maybe, there does seem to be some Chris Craft influence in the design. - Not a bad looking boat.

Have you ever checked up on "Cubavich's" ? - The three were Rybovich (the undisputed leader), Chrisovich, and Cubavich.

In my very limited online research I found some info on all of them. The Rybovich was the be all end all, first on the block. The Cubavich was a group that snagged a Rybovich, measured it and started to produce their copy of it. I believe 13 or so were made before Rybovich caught onto it. The Chris Craft version I'm not 100% sure on, other than I believe Rybovich had a part in the design. I have read rumors that the boat is very sea worthy, but not up to Rybovich quality.

I'm heading to my boat this afternoon to put some fuel in her, and will try and snap some photos of this boat. As far as climbing on it, that I'm not sure. Being a private club I could probably find the owner and get permission before I go about taking photos, documents and running around inside.

If she is a 'Chris' you should have no problem identifying it once aboard. I would expect the instruments & controls to still be typical Chis Craft.

I've always been kind of intrigued with the Cubavichs, kind of interesting history.

Edit:
After a bit more looking at the pictures, I don't think Chis Craft is right. I might be thinking more toward a Wheeler now. -- Though I can't remember if Wheeler built anything with a hard chine.

Re: Chris Craft Chrisovich? Photos

This is definitely a 40' Chris Craft Sportfisherman(commonly referred to as Chrisovich, but never by Chris Craft Company). My family owned a forty foot Chrisovich for three years-buying it from the original owner in 1966. It was the finest boat Chris Craft ever built---very heavy construction, and a bottom design that made her an excellent sea boat. Made numerous trips from Atlantic City to Florida. Fished a lot.

I believe that this boat was Chris Craft's attempt to compete with Rybovich, and because of production line techniques, they were able to bring the boat in at one quarter of the Rybovich price. I also believe, that they still lost money on every one of these models they produced. Too well built.
