Good Morning...

So I am forever looking for more options for powering my boat. Found some really good deals on some older, yep I am going to say it, Chrysler outboards :eek:

1973 130 HP $450 TnT

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/boa/2007220083.html

1979 115 HP $350 TnT

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/boa/2007237400.html

Should I even look at these? I read (Chrysler Force forums) that they got bad reps unnecessarily but if maintained they are good motors.. do they power out the same as the OMCs? I would like to pursue the 130HP but its a 73 so makes me think a little more about it. I know it comes down to how does it actually run / look?

Comments on Chrysler motors in general (Are they junk or are they good if ___?

Don't roll your eye's too much , Like I said, I'm hooked on digging up the low cost option! :D

Thanks!

Chuck, I am admittably the worst fan of Force/Chrysler OB's. It is mostly due to past experiences of a good friends Force motor & the troubles we had with it.
I do believe in good maintanence and getting a 'lemon' when it comes to motors. Give it a try. Be sure to do the thorough examination on it before you buy. There are some out there I'm sure that are good motors, and like you said the prices are hard to beat. Make sure you can get parts for the one you get. I think the HP rating is lower than other brands.

Hard to beat that cost. Not a lick of trouble in thrteen years sounds very promising on the 130. Price is good on both, both have good compression, both run.

That's what I call; Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Make sure you hear it run before you take it home. A compression test would give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside too.

I'd rock either of those motors. I always thought the old Chryslers were bad-a$s looking.

I wouldn't even concider an obsolete out of business company such as a Chrysler.

A water pump should be installed in any used motor you buy. Find one for a Chrysler of the size you're concidering if you really have to have one. Water pumps need replacing every few years anyway.
