ok this is not major major but fairly major. mercury 40 from 1980/81 I believe blueband.
I was sitting in my boat with muffs on idleing and I tapped the throttle, all ok. Turned engine off and was pretending to be going 60mph (speedboat) and put throttle all the way forward and I hard a clunk from the engine.
I got back and take a look. The arm that the throttle cable connects to has come off the engine. Its a long arm with a round bit in the middle containing a spring. The top bit connects to stator and carb throttle so its the main throttle bit. I think most mercs have this anyway.
I remove it and turns out the bolt had no threads to dig into. There is a hole in the side of my engine with little shards of metal and no threads.
What do I do? Should I put some Locktite type stuff on, the 2 part stuff and put all back together so bolt is stuck in place and throttle can move or what?
Budget is small so don't want to be buying helicoil kits really.
