Just picked up a old Ski boat with a 85 hp Mercury OB , has not been run for some time
I'm not sure if there is old gas in the tank , the tank is under the front and it looks very hard to get out
The tank is Aluminum
Is there something that can be put in and fushed out to to clean it up , maybe put in a gal and pull the boat around to it will slosh
Pump it out with electric fuel pump then repeat

Re: clean a gas tank

a Few years ago when I had my boat redone I had 60 gallons pumped out and used this with some new gas to remove the sludge.

Star Brite Star Tron Gas Additive - iboats

It took a couple of tank fulls but it was amazing how much came out and got caught by the filters. At first I had to change the filters after every 2 hours of use. Be careful about getting that electric motor anywhere near the fumes. You don't want:

Just run it on E10 and keep some spare fuel filters on hand. Nothing shines up a fuel system like ethanol.

Place a Filter In Line with the fuel pump and pump it right back into the tank.
After about 5 times around the circuit, you will gave filtered over 99% of the gas.

Example: If the fuel pump moves 30 gallons per hour and the tank has 5 gallons of fuel in it,
after an hour the 5 gallons will have been filtered the equivalent of 6 times. (99.75%)

That's exactly how I cleaned up the 80 gallon tank on a Wellcraft. Worked like a champ!

And, be kind to the little fuel pump.
Be sure to place the filter BEFORE it!
