1992 Evinrude 90 HP
I had to pull the lower unit to replace the seals, and water pump. I put the lower unit back on, and adjusted the shift cables per the Joe Reeves method. note: The shift rod was much higher than spec when I pulled the LU. I put it back on per spec height. Before pulling the LU, it would shift ever so easily into forward and reverse with no apparent issues. Now it seems that I have to push the shift lever quite a bit further forward to get into gear (so the RPMS are higher too). This causes a minor clunk. My main concern is that I have felt clunks when cruising. The first time I felt it, I thought I had hit something submerged.
What's the diagnosis?
Thanks!
