I have a 35hp Gale Sovereign that slips out of gear when I go above 2000 rpm. I was told I have a "clutch Dog" problem. Does anyone know the easiest fix for this problem? Thanks

New clutch dog. I'm in the same boat with a 57 Evinrude Big Twin 35 hp. Luckily I have a donor lower unit in the shop. Try a free classified ad at the AOMCI web site, www.aomci.org
Tell 'em exactly what you're looking for, motor model/serial/year numbers.

On some models you can just reverse the dog so the reverse side does the forward gear.to keep it working be sure the motor idles down and shift crisply neither jamming into gear or dragging it in too slowly.

Actually, what you have to do is tear it down and look at the parts. It is seldom that the clutch dog wears out without also wearing out the forward gear. If that is true in your case, replacing just the dog or turning it around is a temporary fix at best, and a waste of money if you bought a new dog and destroy it by running it against a worn gear.

However, if I am not mistaken, you can swap the forward and reverse gears AND turn the dog around....if the reverse isn't worn out also. Again, you have to look. If it is possible to swap gears, you have to press the bushings out and keep them in proper place.
