Actually, what you have to do is tear it down and look at the parts. It is seldom that the clutch dog wears out without also wearing out the forward gear. If that is true in your case, replacing just the dog or turning it around is a temporary fix at best, and a waste of money if you bought a new dog and destroy it by running it against a worn gear.
However, if I am not mistaken, you can swap the forward and reverse gears AND turn the dog around....if the reverse isn't worn out also. Again, you have to look. If it is possible to swap gears, you have to press the bushings out and keep them in proper place.
