Re: co2 pfd's where to buy
I agree with arks, great idea. Also worth mentioning that when these inflate the noise and cold can be very unsettling, especially for a young person in a traumatic situation.
I have several inflatables, whenever I take a guest out I take a few minutes to familiarize the person with the PFD. I emphasize the oral inflation operation and whistle location. BTW, the oral inflation is MUCH easier if the cover(secured by velcro or snaps) is opened before inflating.
I love inflatables, was wearing them before approval(USCG), my only reservation is now that they are so popular there seems to be a trend to build the cheapest. Add to this the availability of poor quality and/or seconds via online purchases and auctions and well, you see it coming.
My .02, buy a proven brand from a reputable seller.
