Kcassells, there are a lot of similarities in of hulls. Yours looks like a walkaround from the pics. Looking at your demo work and remembering mine brings back a lot and the reminder of the fiberglass itching. But no pain no gain. I will have a lot around in the advanced search for helpful insight and info. One question for you, are you going to replace any of the foam you've taken out?

Absolutely going to replace the foam. It's also a Coast Gaurd safety requirement. The stuff they make today does not absorb water. There are other techniques. Blue board foam cut to fit, those pool foam child worm floaties, etc..The idea is to have @ 4 bulkheads, sealed compartments that leave a better chance for flotation in the event of an accident or leak.
Although on another note you should place drainage hole in most bulk heads to let water make its way to the rear sump pumps. The gas tank bulkhead is always compleatly sealed whereas you don't want any fuel to escape and flow.

Good info. My fuel compartment will be sealed as you said and I guess I will replace some of the foam. Probably will seal it with some resin but will definitely make limber holes for drainage to the pumps.

You might go to a boat scrap yard and see if you could cut out a piece of an old transom and fabricate a "Plug" for your transom. It would make it a lot easier to patch it in an smooth it out.

If it's the old foam that gets waterlogged you may want to take it all out and replace as needed. Yes my boat is a walkaround.

No I decided that I would replace the old fuel tank. Have been looking at the Moeller permanent mount tanks. Once I lay out the bulkhead I can measure and see how large a tank I can use and go from there. Also need to buy some PVC pipe for drain runs and conduit for electrical and mechanical runs. Fun times ahead.

Don't use pvc for drains in salt water. Gets too brittle and cracks/breaks. If there under the floor you will have nightmares soon to come. They have cheap corrugated flexible piping that moves with the boat and the bangs. plus no glue joints. They have it at Home deblow etc and alot of other places.

They have fittings, stainless steel clamps and they don't break the budget at all.

The original setup had used a thin walled pvc pipe for the drains and it was cracked in several places. One of the main reasons for the gut job on the hull and all the waterlogged foam I think I will be using a similar type hose as you suggest as most of the drain hardware will accept a flexible hose. I was just thinking that our projects are very similar and it would be interesting to keep tabs on our progress. I don't have a completion timeline that is hard and fast but whenever I get the chance to make some progress I try not to pass up on it. my goal for the next couple of months is to get stringers/ bulkheads installed, pour in foam and seal off, get cockpit sole cut out, run mechanical /fuel chase. Man I need a nap

LOL to the Nap comment. I just was grinding away again. And I took my son to work.I thought I could kinda just smack it all back in but I keep getting anal. The old fibergalss for tabbing was that old fat stuff from back in the day. I think it was called woven roven. So many air gaps under it that you can see and it's mixed in with the old foam. So hey...I got an encapsulated sponge. Pisses me off. I think my boat was made on a Friday after an early morning/all day bar hopping jaunt. But the boat is a beauty and the shell and the work is worth it.
Your pretty funny. we are on the same schedule...like you, time and money dictates everything for completion. But now I got the itch with the weather and everyone asking me when will she be ready. While I'm doing this, like you I've been reasearching electrical, heating/cooling, instuments, gauges,hard top/canvas top and crap....this is all because I just wanna fish. Especially the Strippers down on the Jersey coast. Even though there population is getting destroyed.
At the end of the day the this boat will feel my pulse and I hers. This is not what I bargained for but now I have another Lover. LOL!!
PS...She never complains!
On a cool note the boat came with an aluminum frame {crap...no windshield** to canvas. At my work they just decided to throw out a load of green awning/canvas which I will put in my truck this weekend. Ha ha now I have to get it or figure out how to fabricate it to look sweet.
I really want to built a hard top and enclose it in totally with windows etc... but that may be another project. Already gather cool info and stratagies.

Das boot aluminum frame that came with the boot. Of couse that too was attached improperly.

Man this is unreal as I want to put a hard top on my boat as well. I have a mate that can fabricate the structure and I would try to use divinycell foam board to build the top. Might have to redo the windshield but another project aways down the road. Hard part is trying not to get to far ahead of myself and allow for changes in design. Very important to me to be able to work on /service things with some ease. But like you money and time dictate pace but I know like you I will not have a worry about how she is put together that's for sure.

I hear you. Jo money no project. Ditto on the anal part, just can't handle half arse. Well have to do some thinking on additional bulkheads and their placement, figure out approximate supply need and cost and get project #2 started.

Additional bulkheads are good. If it makes sense lay them up at every 4', that will let you use 1/2 sheets of ply/less waste when you go to do the deck.

Let's see...my grinder died, good riddance...Now my sander died...typical Black/decker poop. Only advantage I like about the tool is that it has a lift up flap in the front that lets you get into 3/4" cavities. I remember the first 1/2" hammer drill my parents bought me fro Xmas when I was a kid. Just got into plumbing and the got me a BD 1/2" hammer drill under the tree. I see it like it was yesterday. Tool didn't last long, but the memory does. Big old yellow awkward tool.
Running thru 21 x 3 sanding belts like ice on the back of a girl on the beach.

I hear you. Must have gotten some old sanding belts as no sooner I put them on and start the sander they bust apart. Just couldn't get going today. Had a late start as I went out and purchased some cabosil, 1808 biaxial, epoxy filler and Interlux 545 epoxy primer. Man, spent a some fortune for that. Started on the templates and cut the starboard side and one bulkhead for the port side. Everything just seemed to be a chore. Guess I was just tired from the long week ok work. I will try and cut the last bulkhead tomorrow and see if I can get a little sanding done.

Looks great for a tired persons work. Nice progress.
A couple of questions;
--Are you making a drain under your gas tank platform.
--Are you going to keep the wood off contact with the hull. They call that contact a "HARD SPOT" . To avoid that simply add a pc. of 1.4" foam, fit wood, then peanut butter up all the gaps and get ready for glassing.

Wrapping up the Big Dirty grind today, gonna sopa down, power wash the entire boat. Take of the covers, let her feel the sun and recover new. I don't want any water with the wood going in...
