"A huge blow to American Socialism" (my quote)

Federal Courts have struck down Marylands law that big companies (Walmart) have to spend a certain amount of it's payroll on medical benefits.

You all will have to look up the details yourself. But I notice I have not heard about this on the BIG news.

Hoorah!

And they were just cooking up more legislation to broaden the net that would entrap smaller companies too.

No doubt the work of the evil Karl Rove! 8)

No doubt, just the opening salvo. Glad that it appears to have fallen short.

"...what so proudly we hailed, at the twilight's last gleaming. ...... Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there."

This all inspite of the socialists.

Re: Common sense and Justice prevail again!

Maryland needs to offer tax breaks/incentives for those companies that do cover the ins costs of their employees, instead of penalizing those that don't.

If the state is going to somehow cover the costs, someone has to pay for it. If they don't cover it, fine, and we force those unfortunate enough to get sick to either die or be forced into bankruptcy, so be it, but ultimately someone *IS* going to pay somehow.

So much for the much trumpeted *family values*

PW, I think your first paragraph is right on. The second paragraph... well... they currently cover it through the state medicaid program and the costs get passed off to the middle class. I guess we can agree that family values are only for those that can afford them.

In NY we already have every dollar of our property taxes going to fund Medicaid. I think Im' paying my fair share and then some. PW I think you are smart enough to know that no one can be denied emergency health care because they have no insurance or can't afford it there for no one is going to die. I have to say that it is encouraging for both you and JK to state that somebody has to pay for it. Most libs act as if the government entitlements have nothing to do with our tax dollars. I have always tried to improve myself by getting a job with benefits that include health care. That is called incentive to better yourself, I realize that goes against the liberal credo of keeping people dependent on the government.

That's just not in the Liberal Credo RR. It's whine until you make everyone else feel guilty enough to provide it for you. Then, on top of it come out with derogatory, misplaced claims that you are a hypocrite because you are not displaying 'family values' when you resist their way.

Also, as a liberal, you go on to act like the outlandish Maryland decree was nothing more than business as usual i.e., a normal course of events. No biggie.

Re: Common sense and Justice prevail again!

First off, I have not seen this "Liberal Credo"? Is it available on Amazon? Or is it the made up, pretend version available on Rush.com

Second, I have no idea which liberal would think that no one has to pay for services, or why they would think that. I thought libs wanted higher taxes?

In the case of Walmart and the state of Maryland, I don't know the precise facts, but if it is true that the state is picking up the tab (or some of it) for health insurance, it stands to reason that competitors of Walmart will have to do the same, or no longer be competitive.

This will necessarily drive up taxes for everyone else. Is this what we want?

And since you posted this, you do not see the problem with this brilliant plan that jumps off the screen and bites me on the nose?
You may need a calculator, but do the math. Sorry, but it really is that transparent to me, whereas, you just posted this.

And who you place responsibility upon is somehow responsible?
"Self-reliance" is just a generalization us conservatives believe fervantly in, PW. It doesn't mean we advocate the stranding the truely indigant without help. But when the government becomes responsible for the feeding, housing and health care of the masses, we get the USSR. And we vboth know that did not werk very long.
One has but to look at France, Canada, Cuba, Sweden to find out if such socialised societies cannot survive without SOMEBODY footing the bill. Nobody werks for free, and this includes "wealthy" doctors. Forget "GROWTH" of any kind! I'm talking pure survival.,notihng more.
I think you'll find failing government brooding being artificially propped-up on the backs of the "wealthy" (I'll leave the definition of "wealthy" to your own determination).

If you give your kids everything, they will expect it as adults. The government will NEVER raise me.

As for trumptting family values --- As if trumpetting familiy values is evil. Scarey,PW!
I happen to like family values second only to God.

Usually, 12 footer, I can figure out what you are trying to say. I may vehemently disagree with it, but I can understand it, at least.

This latest I have not a clue what you are even talking about.

Idealogical arguments are fine, 12. The problem becomes how you implement them. The choice you offer between our system and a USSR system is of course a completely false, and I would say a nonsensical choice.

And Canada, as near as I can tell, is doing just fine.

Henry Ford was smart enough a long time ago to figure out IF he took good care of his workers he would sell more cars and still make a lot of money

That seems to have gotten lost on box stores efforts to drive each other out of business in a market that cant support all of them

Boy, do I have some Buds up there that would like a piece of that statement!
Have a good friend who thinks like you also.
Like you he reads through rose colored glasses.

These are not my words PW. They come from friends in Canada.
Guaranteed Health Care! Paid for by our Government!
Yup, we got it. It’s the best in the world. And Free!
Work’s for all the small things.

Mr. X. (you or me) we caught the cancer in the early stage and it is treatable!
If not you might have been dead in six months!
Mr. X. Your surgery is scheduled for 18 months from now!

My friend still say’s well they are covered. I still say what part of DEAD Don’t, you Understand?

Doctor’s salaries are capped in Canada. After six months they are capped out so they go on vacation or work in other countries for the other six months.
Look it up.

I'm absolutely sure there are flaws with the Canadian medical system.

I am intimately familiar with them, and probably come up with a longer list than you can. What's the point?

My car might not work right. The answer is not in getting rid of the car and going without, or never having the car to begin with, but rather fixing that car.

Doesn't anyone find the fact that the law was crafted so it targeted ONE organization really scary? ONE!! Don't you see how this is class warfare. If it was such a good idea why isn't it applied equally to everyone? Why are the PROGRESSIVE thinkers not outraged. How about laws applied only to Asians or people with size 12 feet or larger? The duplicity is stark.

The point is you deny the point. Refuse to look at the facts.
Take your meds and go off to your other world.
You will be happier there anyway.

I'm curious. What facts are those?

The one's that say if I am not totally destitute and get sick w/o health insurance, I will be plunged into it?

Is that the facts you want me to reconsider?

Or which ones?

BTW, Pointer, I do agree that targeting a single company with a law is wrong headed on the part of the legislature.

Not the first time a legislature has been off-base, and no doubt won't be the last.

OR:

If the car is FUBAR, you could do what my bro did to his F-150... He used it for target practice, and then traded it in for a new Dodge Ram.
I understand your analogy well, and I admit it's a good one.

Do you understand mine?
There reaches a point where throwing money at a broken system is futile.
