Hello!
First off, if I posted this in the wrong forum, feel free to move/delete! I skimmed thru the rules!
Just found this forum last week. I was looking to purchase a bass boat (bass hunter, pelican style plastic boat) for a smaller lake that I live on, when I aquired this gem from a good friend. At first, I had NO intentions of restoring, or doing ANY type of work on a boat, just wanted to get it wet and get to the fishing! BUT, the more I think about it and research ( I know almost nothing about boat restoration) it, the more it appeals to me!
I have a few questions, and need some advice/input. First off, can anyone tell me what type of boat this is? When I try to find info on it, there is just sooo many diff types, I get confused! (deckboats, cruiser boats, jon boats...it even looks like my boat could have been a center console boat at one time??) Also, would this boat be ideal for bass fishing on a small lake? I have a 30lb transom mount trolling motor(mount could use some work), a smaller foot-controled one(old Motor-Guide model, in this post: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=67453&page=1), and an outboard that my sis gave me FOREVER ago that i've never touched....it says Mariner 15, I attatched a pic of it as well...is this a 15hp motor?? Anybody know what year and model this is? Would it be possible or even ideal to mount on this boat??
I am going to continue to do alot of research, mainly here, but can someone tell me, or show me a link, what the very first step is in putting carpet, or maybe even a spray or roll-on liner, down?? There dosent seem to be any damage and it doesen't leak, but the deck is pretty rough and bumpy (i can, and will, get better pics) and I want to put something down to smooth everything out. I probably need to cover it with some kind of sealer first, no? I would REALLY appreciate any help, if something else should be done first in this Epic Remodel, let me know please! I have been wanting a hobby for some time now, and i'm ready to put some effort in!
But, if this boat isn't ideal for bass fishing, i'll have to look elsewhere, and that would be a huge letdown
If you guys are done laughing now at my lack of knowledge, please direct me to any info, or links, on the very first steps to take restoring this beauty!
P.S. The boat is a FishMaster (like I said earlier, finding info w/google has been HELL on this), and under that decal it says La Grange, GA, and R.S.B. Fiberglass Forms. I would like to know some history on this boat as well. I don't even know the year it was made!
The boat is definately (or, will be) an upgrade from the tiny jon boat that I had. It does seem to be perfect for what I need, but as you see, who am I to judge, lol. I will get some better pics tomorrow. The seat and pedestal shown in one of the pics isnt bolted down, I am trying to find a butt-style bass boat seat on craigslist, just wanted to start picturing what its gonna look like! Sorry this is so long guys, just kinda lost, but I would love to learn everything I can and do as much of the work as I am able to.
Thanks SOOOOO MUCH for ANY help that you guys can give me!
