Wondering how many of you have used, are using, or plan to use a comprop?

Im thinking of picking one up,and running it as my main prop.

Boat in sig.

Thoughts? Concerns? Would love to hear some feedback from comprop owners.

Thanks!

Re: comprop as full time prop?

Well, I had a plastic prop on a 15 HP engine. The first time I hit anything substantial, both blades broke off at the hub and I was left paddling back to the dock (To change back to the aluminum--I NEVER go anywhere, not even 100 feet, without a spare in the boat. But if close enough, I like to change at the ramp.)

I wouldn't. I have one on my boat now and it is going to be used only as a spare now that I got an aluminum prop. It doesn't let my motor rev up as much as an aluminum prop does. I know a guy that has one on his boat and he lost 500 rpm just by putting the plastic prop on it was the same pitch as the one he had before.

Re: comprop as full time prop?

are you guys both referring to comp props? All the reviews Ive read on them, have been actually pretty good. Few years back they were nothing to even think about, however with new technologies and such, they seem to have improved.

Im still not sure yet. Was really hoping to hear some positive and negative reviews and compare the 2.

I have the comprop for now but in a few days it will be used as a spare only. We'll see what the difference is in a few weeks.

Re: comprop as full time prop?

My dad has been running a comprop on his boat ('toon with 75merc) for nearly a decade without problems.

I had one on my boat (18' with 4.3LX)for almost a month, lost all four blades pulling a tube. Didn't hit anything, they just seperated from the hub. Comprop customer service was great and I had a replacement in 9 days(that included shipping both ways). The replacement went on ebay and I purcahsed a Hustler. It pulled almost as well as the comprop, but had much better topend and no blowout.

I loved that prop until Bondo introduced me to shifting props.

I switched from a 4blade 13x17 comprop to an aluminum 3blade 13x17 and I gained 600 rpms. The boat has better hole shot and top speed, plus it gets better mileage now. I won't even use it as a spare.

I ran a 13p, 4 blade on my last boat (16 ft. Tracker with 40 Merc.) for 5 years with no problems whatsoever, great performance and held tight in the corners. Very durable.
With that being said, I bought a 18p, 4 blade for my new boat and it didnt perform very well (lower rpms than a 19p aluminum).

Re: comprop as full time prop?

I have a 4 blade 17" pitch Comprop on my 19' Bayliner skiboat with the 125hp Force. I like it! The first thing I noticed, was kept the bow up on plane, which is good for a bowrider, my rpm's are right where I wanted them, and where they should be, acceleration is better, speed, & handling is fine. It is now my spare prop because I got a great deal on a SS prop, but I wouldn't hesitate using it as my main prop, or for skiing, or pulling a tube. I just don't know what will happen if I hit something with it? :D
