What's the deal lately? Seems to be a lot of confrontational posts lately. Especially when it's science-related. What gives? Anyone else feeling this way?

I believe people don't want to rethink what they think they know. ( critical thought ) Some people just want to justify what they do, and YES, there is a certain portion of the population that are oral-rectally gifted.

im tending to think, that with the recent explosion of newer posters from other forums on i boats. they bring the attitudes of the other forums here.
they don't know that iboats is different. being a jerk here is just not acceptable. this forum is built on helping people, not shooting them or yelling because you are in a bad mood and want to "give it to someone"

i also think that we all really have to watch and hit that red triangle (report a post button) as much as we can to help keep this forum a safe place.

if we dont do that.....this forum (or any forum) could go right in the toilet.

As I've said before on threads like this.... I believe a majority of these confrontations would be avoided if people would simply replace "you're wrong" with "I disagree and here's why".

Just kidding. Change and opening up to ideas is a very difficult thing for humans to deal with. The same phsych path people go down when going through change is exactly the same as what a person goes down for grief. We're wired that way.

I think alot of good points here.

(I'm new to the forum, but I'm a member on so many forums on the net that I barely get to them all once a week.)

About 20 that I visit enough to call myself a member.

Some are great, others for some reason have some allure that attracts opinionated jerks. Usually they are not right, especially when it comes to a scientific answer that has a right or wrong.

I usually just cruise right on past the confrontational posts, not worth my time. If I disagree with someone, or think I have a better answer, I always try to start with "in my opinion" or "You could consider trying" I am always looking for advice too, I sure as heck don't know everything in the world, so when I need help, I hope that the guy I offered my advice on a topic isn't offended and could offer me his knowledge. Sometimes people aren't trying to be confrontational, they just don't know how to present their information and it is read the wrong way. Of course sometimes people are just plain wrong and even when you post references to back up your information, they still believe whats in their head, and then we have to let them go on their angry way and learn the "hard way" that we all have been through once in our lives. You know "Wonder if thats hot still.." "OW." The hard way.

There are some "friendly jests" here. Sometimes it is all in good fun. Sometimes....

One of the BIG diferences here is that people make fun of themselves and sometimes others in the spirit of broadening everyones minds.

Lots of great info and wonderful people on here. Hopefully noone gets offended and removes their expertise for the betterment of all who are looking for information.

As far as the confrontational posts, Much better than in some other forums I have seen. I do not really see that many here, but when they do show up ( or I just happen to notice them) they seem to come in bunches.

America freedom of speach!!!!!!!!!! and opinions for that matter and after all this is a forum and stating your opinion and or advice is what makes this one above all others the best but the amount of people to help others in need is what makes this a great forum.

Whenever I re-read posts that I've made they often sound a bit confrontational to me yet face to face I'm not like that at all and I try hard not to sound like that when I type in forums.
I hate seeing a discussion turn into a full on arguement.
On the flip side I never get upset by anything that's said to me.

I remember the days when the mods had blisters on their fingers dealing with many posts here. They did a big crackdown about 3 years ago making this the best (in my opinion) forum. Many moved on that are missed, but couldn't deal with not being confrontational.
