I'll bet Regal will be of no help on a 30 year old boat.
Chaparral wouldn't help me with mine when it was 1 year old,
they told me to contact the dealer.

Use your cellphone camera to reach around the engine to take pictures. Hopefully you'll find the casting number that way.
Why are you thinking of rebuilding the engine? Does it have a problem?

Look at this for the serial number location. As poconojoe sai, stick you cellphone there and snap pics.

That's a 1990 3.0L engine with a 1.98:1 drive.

That's an 86KW (@4200-4600rpm) engine. And the drive is known as an 'Alpha One' (sometimes incorrectly referred to as a 'gen I').

The serial numbers you quoted aren't quite right. Here they are corrected.
Drive - 0D454103
Engine - 0D444649

'Boat' and 'engine' are 2 separate entities. Unlike car makers, boat builders don't build engines, they buy them from Mercruiser (or Volvo or OMC, or Honda, etc) and installed them in their boats.

When you are looking for parts and information, those serial numbers are the thing everyone will ask for. When you post questions on this forum, we ask you put those numbers, and the year of the engine/drive (not the boat) at the top of the opening post of any thread. And because the 3 litre engines of that era could have any one of 3 different ingition systems, we do ask that you specify that too. They will be Points, EST (electronic distributor) or DDIS (like a coil pack with 4 spark plug leads coming out), see below.
