Re: Control panel
First decide on what type of switches you want to control your accessories. Rocker, toggle, etc. Then decide how fancy you are going to get with your wiring, such as relays or just a high amp rating switch. You will also need a fuse box that the gang number will be contingent upon how many accessories you control and how many amps they draw. I usually mount my fuse boxes behind the helm on the backside of the wood. Google amp formula and it will also give you an idea of what size wire gauge you will need. Usually the component you are controlling has identification of how many amps it draws. Once you figure out the switch type you want, you need to fabricate the panel. Many make them out of plastic or aluminum or buy premade ones $. Remember most rocker switches have rectangular openings and it takes more effort and tools to cut the hole. If going in a boat you want to make it look as factory as possible on not an add on after thought. Go to west marine store and take a look at what they have, it will give you an idea. I get a lot of my wiring products from McMaster.com or Del-city.net. When building harnesses and such I use marine grade UL approved tinned wire and I solder and shrink tube all my terminals. Also keep your wire colors standard to marine wire color standards (google it) too. It makes me crazy when helping someone out with a problem and they have all the wrong color wiring for their components, or even worse run all the same color..
