Hi all,
So I did quite a lot of research on this and found there two threads:
http://www.screamandfly.com/showthre...6-bubble-back/
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=258737&page=1
The first thread was completely detrailed by everyone feeding the troll, who kept coming back fore more. The second one was a little more informative.
I have an Evinrude 115hp (1978. Model 115893C)
All in all, ive picked up that I can upgrade by 115 to a 140 by:
- Replacing the 'flat back' exhaust cover, manifold and filler blocks with the 'bubble back' cover (and corresponding manifold and filler blocks)
- Replacing the stock carbs with the 140hp (larger) carbs
- The exhaust tuner (the megaphone/horn) does not need to be modified, but can be. No real benefit if you do
- There are some minor modifications required
Now, my questions are:
1) What modifications are required?
Im a fairly competant hobbyist having successfully rebuilt motorbike and outboard 2. strokes for over 10 years. However, I dont know some of the terms used in the industry (eg. milling, welding bosses etc...), so some explanations may be necessary
2) Does anyone have pictures of the modifications needed? I spoke to my local wrecker and he believes its a simple 'bolt-on' solution, which is what I am hoping for
3) Would this modification and increase in power put too much additional pressure on the lower unit? I am assuming not, because the rest of the parts are interchangeable between the 115 and the 140
4) Finally, I have already ordered the bubble back cover (p/n 0323319), the manifold (p/n 0323468), 2 filler blocks (p/n 0322684) and the 2 carbys from my local wrecker. Im not sure if its those part numbers he is giving me, but those are the ones I found on boats.net.
I have also ordered the exhaust gaskets (2 of them) and 2 complete carby rebuild kits including floats and needles ($32/ea thanks ebay!)
5) I read somewhere that the thermostats need to be changed, however, I cannot find the thermostats in the parts list at all! Does this engine even HAVE a thermostat?? If so, can someone give me the part number and how many I need?
Is there anything else I am missing? Anything more I need?
Thank you in advance
