HI everybody,
I have a 5.7GS and was wondering is they can be converted to fuel injection. and if so, where could the parts be bought. The motor is a 1996 and is it worthwhile doing with respect to fuel savings

Are you doing the work or a marina?

A competent mechanic who knows about marine engines will be doing the job not me.My back ground is electrical

Holley makes the conversion kit, it's about $1000. You would have to research it to see if it's marine rated.

Thanks for that advice. I will check the suitability for a marine enviroment.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. Overall, your carb setup will be more reliable in the long run.

Hi Bruce

As I am a bit of a dim wit when it comes to motors I was wondering if you could explain the statement that you made about carbs being more reliable.

I would have thought with the injection being controlled electronically that settings for example would remain constant as there are no mechanical adjustments to vibrate loose.

I don't have to make this conversion, but interested to see if there would be any advantages for me to do the conversion.

A carb is a simple mechanical device. If you send dirty fuel to it, of course you will have problems, as you would with a fuel injection system. If you are out 20 miles at an island, like I was this weekend, and your boat doesn't start all of a sudden, your carb would be the last thing you would probably have to think about. If you had an electronic fuel injection system that wouldn't be the case.

An aftermarket fuel injection is going to make it easier to start and your engine will run better if you happen to change altitudes. You aren't going to get much more gain than that.

The money spent doing a EFI system then the tuning that goes along with such a adventure would be huge. First you must by the hardware itself...then the fuel pimps..then the knock sensors..Now after the new fuel cell is done and the holley system now your going to have to tune it..That's programing software for fuel tables and spark advance..
All said id bet your end up 3000 plus dollars

New carb and intake maybe 700...;)
