I had the misfortune of dragging my lower unit through some gravel. The engine temp got up to 220 degrees for a few minutes after this happened and I got it to shore to check for any obstructions in the water intake ports of my lower unit. I also checked the prop and it was OK. The intake ports were clear and after getting under way, the engine temp dropped back down to 160degrees. (It was running about 140 degrees prior.) Could I have sucked up some debris into the water pump? Should I check the impeller for obstructions?

Thanks for any input!

Have you tested the boat at since the ground strike?

I mean taken it out on the water, ran it up to temp

If you have fresh water cooling you may just have some debris in a cooler.

Easy to check by removing a hose. Start closest to the raw water inlet to the engine.

I ran the boat for another 10 minutes in the water and the temp was fluccuating between 160 and 180 degrees (slowly). I didn't pull the inlet hose to the engine water pump off though to check for good flow. I can check it with the boat out of the water with water going into the intakes. I needed to check the impeller anyway.

Thanks
