Assuming that I have a seawater or RAW water cooling system, would it needed to be flushed out as part of preventative maint check? I know the closed water systems need to, but I'm not sure about the open water ones.

No, it is like Tommays says.....
Since you are new to boating, I must stress that the most important thing for you to do with regard to maintainence is familiarize yourself with properly draining your block & manifolds to prevent freeze damage.......;)

I knew I would have to drain the cooling system for winterization, I was just thinking along automobile lines, which was probably my first mistake, that you don't flush the cooling systems annually, and thinking out loud here, is because there is anti-freeze in the system!! Alright, thanks guys! Be patient!

Re: Cooling systems

I didn't catch the ND location, flushing the raw water side is not quite so imperitive.

First thing to invest in(since you will be doing your own maintenance) is a Factory Service Manual. No cheapie aftermarket manual.

Speaking of manuals....Where's Coors????
