My Dad used to have a Correct Craft and it seemed like a nice boat to me as a kid. I remember it had a Ford Cobra I/O in it and went about 45mph. I dont ever see any on the lakes or mentioned here. Were they short lived, good boats, bad boats etc? Any info would be great.

Re: Correct Craft boats.

Unless it's different from what I know, Correct Craft is the same as a Ski Nautique. They primarily built direct drive tournament ski boats, which very well could have been powered by a Ford 302 or 351w in the 80's/early 90's. I've not seen one with the Volvo I/O, but that doesn't mean they didn't experiment with the I/O drivetrain at some point.

Upon further review, CC made some runabouts and small cruisers in the 70's that could have had the volvo powerplant. Most all of their focus from the 80's on was for watersports tow boats.

Very cool thanks for the response. I remember it was White and blue, glass and prob between 16-18ft as it fit in the garage. Its what I would consider a small cruiser. It def wasn't a runabout and wasn't like most Ski Nautiques I've seen, but we did tube and ski off it all the time. If I had to guess it was from the mid to late 80s Looked a lot like a common Sea Ray bow rider but didnt have any seating up front.

I used to sit in it, in the garage all the time pretending I was racing it since it had the Cobra engine. lol.

You might look into something older, like the Correct Craft "Freeport", which was an 18' 70's-era boat I think, but would have had an I/O as an option.

I know it def had a I/O since the engine was in the rear and not in the center like most of the S.Ns. I searched google images and havent seen anything like it really. I guess it could have been from the 70s but always thought it was newer from the styling and how mint it was. Then again Im trying to remember this from 20yrs ago.

Re: Correct Craft boats.

Thank you for the links. I dont expect you too but I have been going through the brochures and searching google and haven't found it yet. Thought someone might be familiar with it.

Wish I had a old pic and my Dad passed a few years back so I cant ask him about it. As far as I can remember it didnt say Ski Nautique anywhere on the boat just Correct Craft on a small logo on each side and pretty sure it was riveted on and not a sticker. It was a closed bow with a I/O and the engine mounted in the rear not the center of the boat. It had a fiberglass cowl with no cushions.

Again thanks for any help here. My Dad loved that boat and I would just like more info on it.

Re: Correct Craft boats.

I guess, I had never looked at older Correct Crafts.

Some of them look similar to SlickCrafts of the same era.

The thing with you recollection regarding a "Cobra" outdrive is interesting. OMC didn't produce the Cobra until 1985. Now it is possible that the boat was repowered from a Mercruiser to an OMC Cobra at some point.

There were an aweful lot of "crafts" back in the 80s and 90s though. Wonder if it could have been something other than "Correct".

I am sure it was a Correct Craft and looked just like the one I posted but different graphics. The boat for sale is sold and maybe one day I would like to buy one but not today. I already have two and space and cash is tight. I do have great memories in that boat though!

I cant be sure but the boat looked just like that pic, and when you popped the cowl it said cobra right on top. He had a Baja, a Lund tinny with a 25hp OB and a older boat that I was too young to remember much about. Im 100% sure it looked like this boat and had a Ford in it that said Cobra right on the top. Now if they made the same boat later Im not sure but didnt see it in the brochures and I searched all the 80s-early 90s.

Re: Correct Craft boats.

I'd guess the air cleaner/cover was changed at some point. I know there were plenty of Ford cars/trucks with the word "Cobra" under the hood. These were usually an aftermarket chrome air cleaner or valve covers or other accessories. This was long before OMC used the word for their outdrives.

I don't doubt that the boat was the same model the one you found on the Correct Craft Fan website. It probably had an Mercruiser 888 (Ford 302) or a Mercruiser 233 (Ford 351).

And someone probably added something like this to it: Fox Body Mustang Air Cleaner 13" Ford Cobra Chrome/Black | Fox Body World

The Internet is a wonderful thing.
I'm not going to do your homework for you, but here is another place to take a look.

CorrectCraftFan.com Reference

Thanks! Found it there and Im pretty darn sure its the one I linked. Everything about looks right. The hump in the cowl, the vents, windshield, closed bow, Seating, even the horns. Just different color combo but the boat was white.

Absolutely possible it was changed and I didnt know it. I know it was a Ford based motor and my Dad and I are both hotrodders cant leave anything alone. He prob changed the covers himself and I didnt know it. Im sure thats the boat though.

Heres a pic of my cars engine bay. lol

I'd imagine he meant "Cobra" on the engine somewhere, not on the outdrive itself. The Cobra monicker for Ford started with the '62 AC Cobra I believe, so the Cobra name could have very well made it onto a valve cover or air cleaner in the engine bay by the mid to late 70's. Cobra name plate was available on 289's, 302's, etc, so it could have been anything.

Looks like an F-body Formula Firebird, 95 model or so I'm guessing. That LT-1 has been beefed up just a tad ;).
