The service guy recommended the XD30 for my 1996 Evinrude 130. He said the other oils XD50 and XD100 were made for the newer direct injection motors and would be an overkill for my motor. I'm using the XD30 at his suggestion, but I just wanted to ask the experts if I have anything to gain by using the XD50 or XD100. I really want to take good care of my motor. If it makes a difference, the motor has less than 50 hours on it since new and the boat is a 1996 Crestliner 2160 Phantom. I am just using the boat for fishing, swimming and maybe the occasional tube pull. I just purchased it last month and the previous owner never registered it since 1997. He had some first and only bad experiences boating and did not want to proceed, it didn't help his wife being afraid of the water and unable to swim and unwilling to learn at 75 years old. Please let me know your thoughts about the best oil to use in my motor.

hope you changed the impeller before using the motor. tcw-3 outboard motor oil is all the is required, you can pay more for the other, but as long as it is rated TCW-3 it's fine.

Impeller, fuel pump, spark plugs, fuel filter, gas in tank flushed out, etc. Run's absolutely fantastic.

Thank you for your quick reply, I'm sorry I didn't mention it on my first reply.

XD30 is fine. Check out Walmart they are selling XD-25 or TWC-3 for 19.83 a gallon.

XD-50 is part synthetic and XD-100 is full synthetic. You'll get less smoke and floating oil residue but I've seen no conclusive evidence that corrosion protection or lubrication are any better.

What I found was when I was towing a tube...they could smell or get a mouth full of the oil burned with the xd-30..I was thinking of going higher...but instead I got the xd-25 and increased the rope by 10 feet. No smoke to the tube and the oil is cheaper.

My WalMart sells Pennzoil TCW3 semi-synthetic for $12.00/gal. Last winter I loaded up on it at $7.00/gal (as did others on this forum).
