Thanks from a lurker for all the great information. Pure newbie. Never had a power boat.

I've run the options on the Mercury website for finding the right propeller for my engine and boat. http://www.mercurymarine.com/prop_selector

Problem is, none of the boats, from "aluminum" to "flats", and none of the rest, are anything like mine. In fact, I won't be finished with mine for at least six months, but I've got a down payment on a Merc 50 EFI 4-stroke for it.

The boat is a cedar skiff, 19'6" X 6'9", fine entry, rounded bow, then flat bottom. The boat itself will weigh about 1000 lbs. It's the Ocean Pointer, here: http://www.by-the-sea.com/stimsonmarine/

The website at Merc says a Vengeance 16pitch for the closest boats I can find, but they all are heavier by at least 1000 pounds.

Is there a way we can get this selection done without going to the water and sampling?

Re: correct prop

Craqpot,
Have you tried the Michigan prop site at:
www.michiganwheel.com Also I would think with the
money your spending a dealer would start you of with a loaner prop so you could pick just the right one.
The boat looks like it has a flat run aft but rounded bilge A truly flat bottom would run faster than yours.I would think a any boat
of similar weight and not flat bottomed like
a jon is would be close enough to select a starter prop.
Have you tried the people who supplied the plans?
Also keep in mind prop selection depends on
how you use the boat. ie empty all the time
medium or loaded with people and gear a prop
is usually a comprimise based on that info.

Re: correct prop

If you go back to the Merc web site under find a dealer there is a question for find a demo prop dealer, the boat will have to be finished and in the water but you will have the ability to try different props until you find what you like before you spend $250-$600 on a SS prop that you are stuck with if you don't like it.
