hello everyone my first post so let me first say thank you to everybody that posts great info here.
the motor in question is a 1973 johnson 115hp #115esl73m.
trying to get this sob to start, during my troubleshooting i found that the starter reads a short on the positive pole of starter to ground.is that normal?i wouldnt think so but not sure. when i bypass the solenoid which i believe is bad the starter engages and turns the motor over so maybe all is well.any ideas.
next issue is this:the ignition switch was broke so i replaced with new, but the person i got boat from told me the motor was a 1986,this is before i started to learn a little about these motors from you guys. unfortunately i had bought the new switch thinking it was an 86.the switch is for 1977- the only difference i see is that it has the push in function for the choke were as mine has a toggle. will this work ok if i hook up the same lettered terminals as original switch?
sorry for the long post but y'alls help is very much appreciated.Doug
