Couple questions on a boat I'm looking to buy

Im in the process of purchasing a 2008 Tahoe Q6 190 HP. I went and looked at it yesterday, and had a few questions.

1st there are a few thin cracks in what looks to just be in the clear coat by both front cleats. Is this normal? What is the cause? I have checked out around the entire boat did not see this anywhere else.

2nd the sheg had a gash taken out of it, and he had it filed down by a shop to where it is smooth. Will this cause an issue on performance? Can I just get a sheg gaurd slip it over and everything be fine?

These were the only 2 things I see that could be an issue, that I have not dealt with in the past

Couple other things.
Need some good stuff to clean things up a little.
The driver, and passenger seat has yellowed just a tad from the yellow life jacket left on the back of the seats

More cleaning needed on the the bottom side of the Sundeck. Again what Is a good cleaning product?

What is the best way to fix the clasp under the front cushion/cooler? Looks like it got knocked loose and stripped the threads

Other than the top two, and a little cleaning the boat looks great.

Thanks in advance!

Lonnie

Looking at your pics, the only thing that really stands out as a red/yellow flag is the chunk taken out of the skag. It will not cause any performance issues however, the big question is how did it get there? Look at where the chunk is taken out....something had to wedge itself between the skag and the prop....the prop was obviously replaced so.....is there any damage to the drive train ? This would be a concern of mine and would have to be checked out as outdrive can get expensive real quick. Otherwise looks like normal wear and tear on a glass boat form what I can see. It does pay to have a professional marine survey done, the couple hundred it will cost could save you thousands in the long run.

He saids, it's the original prop, and it was done a few years ago. He has it going to his shop now to get a few things done. Should I have them check it out and okay it?

A chunk of wood hit in the water will sometimes get jammed between the prop and skeg and the weakest point gave way. No real worries there.

Stripped threads in fiberglass is an easy repair with bondo marine stick putty kneaded up and installed in the holes and replace the screws....when it dries they will not be lose or come lose.

The hairline cracks near the cleats are from the cleats being stressed too much. Not much to do but live with that and do not over stress the cleats. They are not for towing or pulling on...... just for being tied up or holding a bumper.

Cleaning...... so good old elbow grease and manual labor with the stuff recommended above.

Looks like a pretty clean boat. I got some Starbrite deck cleaner with PTFE & it worked amazingly well on the deck & molded swim platform (both textured).

How was this boat stored? Was it stored inside, or outside and covered, or just left outside.

I honestly think that looks alot like water staining on the inside of the sundeck cover I would look it over very well for signs of rot.

Use the sticky at the top of the forum remember care and condition and maintenance of the boat are everything when it comes to value.

On second look, SigSaur might be right. Mildew in the fabric under the sundeck at least. Does the 08 Tahoe have any wood in it? Many newer boats do not.

Why not get an independent survey done then you know where things stand. If a chunk that big was taken out, the prop would have required straightening. No matter what, it appears as though you are going to drop a few bucks on this boat so why not be sure of what you are getting, get yourself a professional marine survey and have piece of mind.

According to this it's all composite, but I don't know what year this review is for: Tahoe Q6 SF | Boating Magazine

Also don't know if they still use wood in the cushion/seat backs. Pretty sure some of the newer all composite hulls still have wood-backed seats & cushions.

A good competent marine survey to your satisfaction and a sea trial also to your satisfaction are in order. Other than potential rot that your surveyor can go over with you It looks O.K. Because of where the skeg got hit you might want to just spin the prop by hand in neutral and make sure the drilled out dimple in the middle of the prop shaft spins nice and true and doesn't wobble up/down or side to side indicating a bent shaft which could have caused other unseen damage.

The boat is kept in a storage garage year round. He has it stored by the lake he goes to an hour and a half from his house.

I looked under the other seats that left up and only the Sundeck had the mildew. I also knocked around looking for any soft spots (floor, motor monts, seats) could it be from just putting it up wet, and not letting it dry out?

I'm going to pay the shop he is taking it to do an inspection on it while he has it there.

I wouldn't be real impressed with that condition on a 2008 boat, looks like a lack of care by the owner.

None of this stuff looks out of the normal to me. Skegs break and chip all of the time. If you look around this site you will find many threads about skegs breaking. The owner should have cleaned her real good before listing so shame on him for selling a dirty boat. On the brightside Starbright Hull and deck cleaner are amazing cleaners. If the price is right I would go for it. With that said you can ask him to bring it to a shop and have them check it out. If there are issues you can agree on who pays for what or what is discounted from the boat.
