I currently have another thread going, but this post may or maynot having thing to do with my recent discovery tonight. I have a 1989 V6 4.3L mercruiser I removed the exhaust manifold on the left side of the engine if you are looking at the engine from inside the boat, I was just inspecting it trying to figure out if thats how water was getting into my oil, I am not even sure what to look for on the manifold? but none the less this post has to do with what appears to be a crack on the block, about an inch and a half long, just below where the middle spark plug is, and above the oil dipstick where it connects to the block.. one side of it is raised a bit higher than the other side of what looks like a crack, its rusty and appears water has been seeeping out of the crack area??? does this make sense to anyone? Thanks for the help in advanced!

Re: Crack in the block?

I will go try to take a good pic have it posted in about 15 mins....If it is a crack, why would water seep out of it, if its on the block? and would that anything to do with water in my oil and why? I'm not knowlegable on the exhuast or block and how all that connects and works... But that doesnt seem to make any sence....

I hate to tell ya but if there is water in the oil you are in trouble. I have two 6 inch cracks, one in the block and one in the manifold but no water in the oil. I was able to JB Weld as to slow down the leaking and the amount of time I had to run with the bilge on but it still leaks a bit. As for the internal crack that you are dealing with, you may need a new powerplant.

Re: Crack in the block?

Can I jb weld that crack on the outside, and the one on the inside? If I can find it? The one on the outside barley leaks.. To find the crack on the inside of the block, where do I start tearin it down? Intake manifold? How long would it take most pros to replace the block and everything else that attaches to it? Then I could double that time for myself to do it, is it even worth it? Does lemon law apply to boats and private dealing? I'm in Mn

Re: Crack in the block?

Call it wishful thinking, But There are a number of possibilities I'am finding out, ie: cracked head, blown head gasket, intake manifolds or gaskets Or exhaust manifolds...... Unless someone here would assume it's for sure a cracked block?

It applies to new vehicles.

I know it doesnt just apply to new vehicles, Its new and old, and some states allow for recreational vehicles to apply as well, I was just looking for a solid answer from someone who knows for sure..... Thanks

Ayuh,... On the Outside,.. Sure.. On the Oil side,... Nope, No Way...

To find the crack on the inside of the block, where do I start tearin it down? Intake manifold?

Ayuh,... Pressure Test the water jacket,+ Listen,... You'll Hear where the cracks are..
Most likely places are in the lifter valley,+ on the Oilside of the lower block, opposite the block drain plugs...

How long would it take most pros to replace the block and everything else that attaches to it? Then I could double that time for myself to do it, is it even worth it?

I can have the motor sitting on a stand in under a 1/2 hour,.. In My shop....

I'd think a weekend would be alittle more realistic though...

Does lemon law apply to boats and private dealing? I'm in Mn

Ayuh,... That's still in the USA ain't it,..??
The Answer to that question is printed on our Money,.... Buyer Beware....
You might find some relief in a small claims court,... Maybe....
