CRAIGSLIST Do it the right way!

I look at craigslist and I am a believer of doing things the right way.

RIGHT WAY

PLEASE answer my email and give me closure! :) I will do the same.

WRONG WAY - Never respond

I love when I'm selling something and people email me to ask if the item is still available. I responsd that it is. Then I never hear from them again. WTF?

I like the people that respond 'What's the lowest you'll take?' .. Yeah, because the price I put isn't what I really wanted, it was only there to confuse people.

I got one of these one time and I responded with "You need to learn how to haggle. I'm not going to lowball myself. You make me an offer and I will either accept it or counteroffer."

It is funny how people sometimes don't respond..I mean, you are trying to unload your junk, right?

When that happens to me I just move on, but I can see where it could be irritating.

Re: CRAIGSLIST Do it the right way

yep i know exactly what you mean!!!

i bought a parts eng a while back -- 3hr drive one way -- and the day i was supposed to be there, while on the way, i got a call from my wife and my youngest was sick and needed to be picked up from school...............i emailed him as soon as i got back home...it was only 10 or 11 and i was supposed to be there around 12-1, but he held on to it for me till the next day.

i have had a few problems like you are talking about...... and it would be hard for someone to buy from me who has stood me up once before...to me its the principle ...just call if you cant make it, dont leave me waiting for you all day.

hope our luck improves.....ive just about give up on selling on the net, of course i always try to sell it locally first to avoid the hassle

I don't understand why people don't remove ads when the item is sold. You continue to get calls/emails and have to either ignore them or explain the item is sold to tons of extra people.. why not just delete the ad and save everyone the grief? The 'SOLD' and 'GONE' additions to the title really take the cake.. DELETE THE AD! Wackos, all of them.

its not just regular people all the time lol

i bought a boat from a dealer a few months ago, i saw the boat on the net.

my kids thought i was joking about people not removing ads......so they wanted to see how long it took them to take it off the web site.............it took 3 days  ..........i figure the only reason it got taken off then was prob because all the hits it got

unless i have the money in my pocket i wont even bother responding...much less ask whats your lowest dollar....

Re: CRAIGSLIST Do it the right way

You have to consider that anyone with a computer and half a brain can post on craigslist. If it cost a nickle to use craigslist that alone would eliminate most of the ones who just waste others time. One solution is to have an extra email account (I have 4) and use one of them just for craigslist . That way when you keep getting mail about something you sold weeks before you can just go and delete every one of them at one time. Its best to never put your phone number on craigslist. Let the wantabee buyer send you his number first.Beware when you give someone your home address too. Once I gave it to some people wanting to buy a car and three shady looking con men showed up. Never again.

Re: CRAIGSLIST Do it the right way

Many don't take their ads down because they know the ad just auto deletes 45 days from it's original listing date. Just laziness, takes a big effort on their part to have to go back into their email and click through the link to delete the item.

Ya, it's the height of rudeness (really its just stupidity) when they don't respond to an inquiry.

What I hate about craigslist is when they allow dealers to list many boats each week. Originally, dealers were not allowed to post. Seems craigslist doesn't care anymore or they changed their rules.

They probably have their hands full monitoring their growing number of hookers and escort service listings :D

Re: CRAIGSLIST Do it the right way

Guess i got lucky with craigslist, i saw a boat that was 3 hrs away from me it was old but very clean but before i drove the 3 hrs too look at it we exchanged some e-mail about the boat and i had him send me more pic's of it, and i asked alot of questions, that might annoy some people by asking too many questions but i don't care i want to know all i can before i go on a wild goose chase.

Re: CRAIGSLIST Do it the right way

My problem with CL has been folks not following through on what was agreed. Three times (once for an outboard motor, and twice for boats) I have had the following situation; I call the seller. We have a conversation where we agree to what we are going to do next (either I am gonna come out and inspect the item, or we were going to meet somewhere), and HOURS before we were to meet, they sell the item out from under me! I can understand if we had left things on vague terms, or if we hadn't set specific dates and times to meet up (I have a job and family commitments, and have to leave this kind of thing for weekends), but not when we had a verbal agreement. Whats worse is for two of the three sellers, if I hadn't called back to confirm date/time, I would not have found out that the item had already been sold until after I got there! I understand that money in hand talks more than an "arrangement", but if we have made an agreement and a situation like that comes up, at least call and at least tell me the deal is dead, or preferably give me a chance to counter-offer.

Re: CRAIGSLIST Do it the right way

thats excactly why when Im selling something on CL I always tell them to call me before they head out to meet me. I always tell them what time frame I'm available. its for sale for cash and if someone shows up before them and offers the money im going to sell it. Unless its being held for a friend, its not being held. the first one with cash in hand gets it.

Re: CRAIGSLIST Do it the right way

That's because there are no tie downs or dissapearing lakes involved :)

LOL LOL i love my tie downs!!! Id rather you make fun of my momma than my tie-downs!!! LOL And by the way the Lake is now a puddle so i check on it every day to see how its doing. It was up to 6 inches today. It was only 4 Inches 1 month ago so it is getting bigger fast! Im going to stock it with trout once it gets 8 inches deep. If it is 10' X 10' and 8" deep i figure i can stock it with about 700 brown trout. Then charge people to fish the lake. I just have to keep a hose on them as i think some of them will be out of that water a little. But thats ok ill use a tie-down to hold the hose on their gills!
