Well the time has come. This weekend I will start stripping the boat of all fittings and hardware. I'm really looking forward to this. I have my cash ready, i am going to take it slow and make sure I do things right. This is a full restoration od boat, motor and trailer. I will take full pictures each step with description. Any comments along the way would be great. I will post a link to my project shortly.

No :D
That stuffs alwfully expensive I though a litre was about a US Quart or so. So the Epoxy would be a 100 a gallon. Can't you have some shipped to you?

I see this is where your buying it eh?

Acording to the website it looks like you can use this stuff.

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

2:1 epoxy is fine I used System3 and some from US Composites 3:1 I liked the system 3 the best. I got the thick from US Composites and it works well for coating. Can do a Panel in 1 coat rather than 2 and it looks smoother. It might not be soaking in as much but it is flexable and should be fine.

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

BTW, can i cut the top deck, from the dash thru to the front of my existing hatch. I will be getting a walkthru window, so want to cut a walkthru to my anchor. In the walkthru it will have walls going down to the floor for strength. Should be ok???

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

Tengals123,

Project is looking good. The boat looks like it is a good solid design. I would not cut the dash, though. That deck hatch is rather unique to your boat, even if it's not all that practical from a use standpoint. And I don't think a walkthrough windshield would look "funny" on the boat with a solid dash. Just being able to open the windshield is a nice feature. Maybe add some additional bracing to the dash and you can crawl throught the windshield out onto the deck to retrieve anchors, etc.

Got any plans for instrumentation? Guages are cool, and you can't have too many!

One more thing. I see you are cutting down the seat posts. Not a bad idea from a performance standpoint. There are lots of nice upholstered bucket style seats available. If you pic a seat style from a specific manufacturer, then you may be able to get the matching vinyl by the yard from them to cover the new rear seat you are planning. Just a thought.

Keep us posted.

Ps. Don't throw out any parts you remove, no matter what the condition. You will find that they come in handy when trying to get replacements, or showing to a parts counter person when you have to describe it. Also, the profile of old rubber/vinyl strips are handy for matching up to catalog cross sections.

Mark.

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

Mark, thanks for the reply and great advise. Right on with the trimming and seating. I have already done that. Two tone, excellent quality seating. Bucket seats are done and they are going to match the rear. All seamed and rolled. It will look great.

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

also, i'm installing a below deck 65litre gas tank. Where would you suggest i locate the filler and air vent. Filler to the same saide as my car filler. The main thing is the vent. Ive been told unless its near the rear facing away from the boat, it will smell of gas all the time. is this true?? any idea's??

Re: Cruise Craft Restoration

Make sure the filler is as High on the side and rear as you can get it.

The vent should have a 12 inch high loop in it to keep water from getting in and gas from geting out. Location should be above water line :D and on the rear of the boat to aviod fumes. You may also want- this or This.

Is the current finish in generally good condition or is a lot of metal showing?
