Crunched a prop

Well I finally did it; busted up a prop. Guess I'm a full fledged boater now. Beached the pontoon boat so the grandkids could go swimming. When I tried to pull off, we were too heavy, so I had everyone go aft to lighten the pontoons at the bow. Backed over a rock that I had cruised right over on the way in. All's well that end well; boat was overpropped anyway. Guys at marine center in Vegas had props and changed it out no charge. They had a new one they had for 3 years and offered to charge the 3 year old price. Wow, an honest boat dealer! When I got there they had found a reconditioned prop for a lot less and I can exchange it if it isn't right. I'm thinking this one will be fine, as they all seemed to be quite experienced.

Nice to hear something positive about repair shops for a change! Awesome for you.

And to really be considered a full fledged boater, you have to forget the plug! :D
(Do 'toons even have plugs? :))

Ever since I found out how much it would cost to replace TWO stainless F5 props on my DP-SM outdrive...I'm even MORE paranoid about shallow waters:eek:

Glad you found a good shop...you should let folks in your area know who they are!

Like the old saying goes: A happy customer might tell 2 friends...an unhappy one will tell 10.

I just went through that. $13-1500/pair new retail, or if you're very lucky $650. for a pristine pair on eBay

I also had the damaged ones reconditioned at $150 per prop. V-P Duo-props are great drives, but can be danged expensive to own.

iBoats has the composite set of props on sale for $428 right now....if ONLY I had $500 more to spend on the boat...(without Divorce that is..)

mmmm... go to V-P's site and check the specs on those props before you buy. I recall looking into them and seeing that they weren't suitable for my boat and power. I think they're only recommended for V-6's, but check it out for yourself.

They list them as OK for single 5.7 installations. I was only thinking of them as emergency props...the blades come off and they can be stored in a small space.

Re: Crunched a prop

It was MARINE CENTER in Las Vegas and the 3 year old price was $150; the reconditioned price was $100. They don't have everything, so IBOATS is still tops on my list; but for service and common parts, they have a customer for life. ( They even sold me the oil and filter and explained how to change it myself rather than pay $100 an hour for them to do it ).
