I am restoring a 1986 Glassport runabout. One of the many projects is replacing the cushions that were in the open bow. I took the old ones out and used the old water logged plywood as a template, I used 3/4" plywood ( too big? ) bought some good 2" marine foam and got them all recovered with some decent vinyl. Problem now is getting them installed.
The original ones for the backing cushions had snap on buttons over the screws, the seats were just obviously hinged which aren't my problem. I went to drill a whole through the vinyl and foam to go through the plywood to go through the fiberglass so I can attach the cushion. Problem is the drill bit got so caught up in the foam, I basically ruined the cushion, luckily I have some extra vinyl.
I can't get behind it with my hands so I guess I need to know what the trick is to get these installed. Gussing the originals were installed prior to the rest of the boat being put together.
Thanks!
