something is major wrong here. no knocking of any sort.how far do i have to tear this motor down to find the prob. any sugesstions no manual on hand. 1985 115hp johnson j115tlcos

Pull the head, should tell the story. Zero sounds like broken rod or cap came off. I've seen completely shot, broken, cylinders scored belief and still shoe something.

I agree. The piston almost cant be moving if its producing 0 PSI and not making any noise. If I were guessing I would say the cap has come loose and the piston is hung at the top of the cylinder. Pull the head and it will tell you exactly what your dealing with. Good luck and hope that it's nothing more than that.

to get to the push rods can i get to them bye taking off the exaust manifold. or do i need to remove the powerhead completley.?

I would suggest keeping one thread for your problem. This appears to be the 5th thread you have started for this same overall issue. The reason to keep one thread is so others can see the progression of troubleshooting and learn for themselves.

I hope this re-build goes well for you. It's not rocket science but you'll need a good manual and you'll need to read it front to back about 5x before you begin. And listen to the good advice of the experienced on this forum.

here is what i found out alot of piston pieces embedded in the cyclinder hear as you can see from the pic. the hose im taking was a water hose witch attached to the botom of the cyclinder head was 90% clogged.connecting rod is still attached piston has a lot of sideways play im sure due to broken rings. these pics will explain better. now my dilema is how to tear down the engine flush out the water supply if that is what that is. the cover over the head was dry underneath. dont know if that should have been wet i had it in the water 3 days ago. if that is a water jacket or not. then i need to flush that out . here are the pics.

jpg guess my next question is how do i access the crankshft in order to remove the piston and rings. exaust manifold side or the carb side.the other 3 cylinders are fine.trying to make this simple as possible.

This is a complete take apart, disassemble everything, and re-build project. You can't just get at one cylinder to do this. I don't remember if you have a manual or not but you need to get one if you don't.

I used a Clymer's Manual it was ok, kind of confusing at times because it covers many models. In hindsite I would get the OMC manual. It will cost just a little more but it will be worth it. My neighbor had the Clymer's so I used it. I read the manual serveral times before I removed the first screw. I took lots of pictures and labelled every nut and bolt and I put them in baggies with notes where they came from. It was a fun adventure, a little nerve racking at times when you are in foreign territory. But it saved me mucho $$, I learned alot and I know it was done right.

Depending upon how complete of a rebuild you want to have when you finish there are many other things you may want to consider replacing when you have it all apart.

Just fixing one bad cylinder is an accepted practice but as stated before it still involves a total tear down of the power head. Only one way to do that. Pull the powerhead off the midsection and split the case.
