I bought the boat from a buddy of mine. Pretty solid ie. good floors and motor. Anyways I hear these Gel coat repair kits are a pain in the @$$ so any ideas on how to repair these huge scratches on my bow? About 5 inchs's long 1/8 inch wide and down to the fiberglass.... looks like it was mauled by a bear! Any ideas?

Marine Tex is great for filling in scratches like this. Just ensure they are clean for a good bond.

Gel coat isn't that hard to work with. go to a boat repair shop and buy a quart. Usually they will pour it off a big can because they use so much of it,(which means it will be fresh) Just put on thin layers so you minimalize your sanding.

I feel for ya. My boat just got attacked by a kid with a knife.

I'm using marine-tex for now, but I need to re-do the whole hull with paint sometime soon anyway, and that'll make things nice and even.

if i was in your area, id go hunt him down and beat him like a dog for ya !
(thats not your boat....its ours....we all went thru the pain with ya bud! ) :D

as far as the gell coat repair.....no worries bud ! just sand out the affected area, and clean with aceitone, then fill with marine tex.

if the glass begund the gellcoat is white and fuzzy...it needs to be lightly ground and a layer or two of matt added before you add the marine tex.

cheers
