It does stink

BUt all flat pannels have a short warrenty (They must know something ) and with the rapid tech changes compared to the CRT i think the long term parts outlook is bad

Re: DELL Products

May want to go online to see if the people who have had problems with them have come up with what solved the problems. I had a big screen a few years back that had problems with circuit boards with cold solder joints. You could flex the circuit board with a screwdriver and make it work. Going over as many solder joints as you could with a soldering iron fixed my problem. If the problem is with cold solder joints on a lot of the surface mount components, you wouldn't be able to do this though without a microscope.

I did Bruce, for the last week. And everyone's problem was solved by cutting their losses and buying another tv (other than a dell)!:(

Well if I can't fix it.......
This is the perfect time to tell the wifey.....
Honey, let's run down to Cosco and buy that 50" Panasonic Plasma I've been eye ballin' for the last year and a half!:D

And it's an actual 1080P.

Actually, go right to dell's forum on home electronics. There's a bunch of complaints on the 26" LCD's they sold as well.
My post about my situation on their forum lasted about 4 hours.
Then it was taken down and I was banned.:D

Before you automatically assume Costco's prices are the best, check around a little. I found that Costco's prices were way higher than internet prices and that other local retailers would get extremely close to internet pricing...all were way less than Costco. Costco is not as price competitive as they once were.

Your probably right Bruce.

But on the other hand, I'd/I'll bet $3000 that if I would have bought this plasma from them and brought this tv back to them after only 2 1/2 years with the documentation that I'm going through to get it fixed. They would say.......
Sorry Mr. Pierutrus, go pick yourself out another and we'll take care of it, thanks for shopping Cosco.;)

Re: DELL Products

Not anymore at Costco

I buy a lot of stuff there and they have a HARD 90 day return now as the old plan was losing them to much money

They do now offer a 2 year warr on all TVs and have tech support

And like anything there is a heavy mix of NEW and OUTDATED units on sale

Sams Club is the same way.......I shop there from time to time and the first thing I notice is that most of the TVs are rebranded models from the year before. I think a lot of times they will buy out a manufactures leftover stock and then change the model number a bit and sell it.

I have heard the same thing about Costco's much stiffer return policy. I think they were loosing their butts on that one.

I research everything before I buy, simply because I don't trust everything salespeople say...........even though technically I am one. Opinions vary quite a bit from TV to TV.

FWIW the Panasonic is a pretty nice set. Even name brands go bad. I bought a 26" Sony LCD that had the panel go bad. Luckily I had Bests Buy's 4 yr plan. 2 years after I bought the set it had a brand new panel and I didn't have an anchor in my bedroom.

Everyone always talks about how inexpensive the walmart's, costcos, and sam's stores are..............but in reality you might be buying last years stuff or cheapo off brands that lack customer service and fail. Chances are if you do go there and find a current model that a BBY or Circuit is selling its only a few dollars cheaper.............and BBY will match that.

Re: DELL Products

Sony is by far the best quality LCD. Just look at the ratings, the consumer reports ratings and the feedback from buyers online. They all are overwhelmingly pleased with Sony. I read that basically all brands are junk except Sony, Panasonic and one other, I can't remember. They said all Wal Mart brands are junk. All Best Buy brands are junk. I believe it too. Anything Sony I've ever owned still works. You can't kill a Sony.

Re: DELL Products

I am still waiting to here what happened when the wife got home!

OK, UPDATE......
Wifey got home at about 5pm. She was so busy getting home that......
She missed the plasma being off and a 13" LCD was makin' the noise.
Then she looked up, turned to me and said.............
What's the matter with the plasma?
You could have heard a pin drop.......The cat even stopped meowing to hear this one!

I said honey, "The Broke Fairy" showed up last thursday and I didn't want to ruin your time with your folks (or hear the gripe on, "my", mini vacation) over the phone that is.....:D

All is good, still got the fine pleasures of being separated.:D

The "CAT", even gave me a high five......and told me, I was one old slick Bast**d!

In the mean time......Had the bug guy help me pull it off the wall....Found a good location for me to start my work.....(OR SHOOT IT).

She actually help me carry it to the garage and back to blow it out!!!
I LOVE THIS WOMAN.....I'm still alive, right?:p

Took the back off. And low and behold.....All Samsung parts.

Well, that's where it stand's right now. It's in a place where I can get to it on wed/thur.

Thanks all, for all your input..:)

Wotknot, you are not married are you?
Pierutrus, I got the cold sweats when you mentioned that the cat quit meowing. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. In our house, when the cat stops meowing, I start whimpering. Good luck with the TV and all of your components.

I wouldn't say its the best by far....its certainly one of the best though. Samsung's LCD panels and Sony's are nearly identical (not talking the tv itself but the actual panel). I won't buy anything that isn't Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, or LG.

I don't particularly care for the off brand stuff since there is a reason its cheaper. It can be a good buy for some people and that is why they sell. The Best Buy brands (Insignia) are rebranded LG's and Samsungs......but the rest of the fit and finish makes them cheaper. Typically (and this is the same for Vizio, Olievia and others) they aren't as bright or colorful and dont have nearly as high of a contrast ratio. They don't last as long either and usually have more problems overall.
