Demo day

I had to take a few weeks from this project. I have pics however the uploader is not working correctly.

I found a tone of wet soaked foam towards the transom.

Question.. I have also noticed that the deck was not tied into the hull. Is this normal?

When I am ready to reinstall the stringers, would it be an ok idea to wrap the stringers in glass before glassing to the hull?

Jason, Lot's easier if you post the pics in your iBoats thread. All you have to do is hover over the pic in the album and a pop up window will appear. The last URL is the IMG Code Click it and it will say Copied. Return to iBoats and hold down the Ctrl Key and click the "V" key and the pic will be posted in your thread like this...

Looks like you've got a full restoration on your hands. Stringers, Deck and Transom. The first link in my signature below will have drawings and info on how to fabricate and install them.

I'm pretty sure this is not normal, and I suspect someone else has taken a crack at that deck in the past and didn't really know what they were doing.

Yep someone tried fixing the deck at some point. They did a total bad job at it. instead of glassing the top the put a skim coat of epoxy and then put carpet over it. once I pulled the carpet totally up I could see it. the used caulking to seal the seams. I was able to pull up the entire sheet of plywood they used and they even tried screwing the deck down.. The current stringers have NO glass on them what so ever!

My next question.. My gas tank which is plastic, is about 3/4 full.. It has sat in there for over a year that I know of. Do you know where I can dump the fuel, or do you think it would be ok to run in my lawn mower?

I had 44 gallons of 9 year old fuel in my boat..... I just mixed a few gallons in my truck when I filled up at the gas station....Truck ran fine Good luck with your resto!

Look on the bright side Jason, not only do you get to do a full resto... you also get to go behind some jackleg and straighten on out they screwed up too!

Stringers... Woodon glas... I read on one of your threads that you cannot directly glue the stringers to the hull.. Is that correct? I saw a video where they put down some PL glue and the stringer on top of the glue. Is this correct?

I also abit confused about the construction of the stringers. so far I have saved some descent pieces because of the angel cut in them to use as a template. My question is simple.. How are the stringers constructed? Do I have to use plywood? If so 3/4, 1/2" or can I use 2 x 6's?

I am trying to get my supply list together because it is only going to take a day to dig this rotten junk out.

Most of us use plywood for the stringers....can you tell what size the original ones were?

Made some prgress today. still lots of water in the soaked in the foam. As you can see I was able to remove my gas tank. Had to empty 12 gallons of gas first and burnt out 2 pumps doing. Anyways..

Question.. When I pulled up the tank, there was a piece of the gray carpeting which lines my boat under the tank. Is this normal to have something under the tank and ontop of the hull?

Question #2... There is what looks like a drain hole under the tank, in the hull, maybe in the center of the boat, as well as in the ski locker; isn't this supposed to drain into the bielge area?

Your fuel tank should be sitting on plastic strips so any water can escape and air can circulate around the tank especially if it's aluminum.

There should be drains from the locker and fuel tank area that go to the bilge.

What should the plastic strips look like? My tank is plastic.
