Depth Finder Question

For Father's Day, I would really like to get my husband a new depth finder with GPS for the tritoon..

I would like for it to be no more than $500-600. My kids each want to throw in $100 and I will complete it. This will be his Father's Day and Birthday. You men think you would like that?

Is that possible and do you guys have any recommendations? So hard to do this on my own!!

Hey Lorie, we've got a Hummingbird 385, Speed/Depth/Fishfinder. Real nice unit, but not sure what it costs. Came w/ the barge.

For a good GPS sounding unit you can't beat Garmin. Be sure the one you buy has the proper built in mapping for the waters you use. Mine is a 430s which has a 4" screen. 530s with the 5" screen would have been better but I didn't have room on my dash for it.Your right in the ball park with your intended spending.

Re: Depth Finder Question

Thanks guys... this gives me a place to start looking. I always end up telling him and letting him pick things out cause I get worried I will not make a good choice. I would love to actually surprise him for once in our lives. I may post links of my choices I find just to run it by you!
Rooster I did find this one at Amazon that sounds similar to the one you have and it is $449.

I have the Older gray scale version of that one and LOVE IT. I Also bought the Navionics lake chip at the same time. For 600-700$ though you might be able to find a deal on Side imaging or Down Imaging unit that might really knock his socks off!

Either the 587 or 597 Humminbird are very good units. I have the 581, which is the B/W version of the 597. I like the bigger screen, so I would go with the 597. When you are in the split screen view it's nice to have it bigger.0512d.jpg
Don't forget to get the cover for it also. One for the unit and one for the base.http://www.amazon.com/Hummibird-MC-...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1339161740&sr=1-2

I know that you want to surprise your husband with a gift, but that's like a man buying something for a woman for the house. Take him to the store and let him pick it out, he we'll be just as happy. Or keep the receipt and if it isn't the " right " let him off " The Hook " and let him get the one he really wants. Just my 2 cents worth. Enjoy whatever you do and I think you are a great wife.

Lorie, I saw where the 385 lists for approx. $399.00. Its the smaller screen 3.5". I just use ours for information mostly, not fishing. He may prefer one w/ a larger screen.

Re: Depth Finder Question

I agree with busdriver just let him pick it out the element of surprise will still be there because he wont be expecting it. Guys are really very simple and the fact that you thought of enough to get it is awesome enough and his choice will ensure that he will get exactly the one he wants.
Good luck

Let us know his reaction

Lorie,
So many to choose from!!!

Look right here on iBoats for a good selection. Go up to Boat Parts & Accessories, Type in "fish finder, GPS" in he search window.

Re: Depth Finder Question

Thanks you guys, you got me thinking. I MAY let him decide... Will see what the kids think. Rooster, he will be using it mostly for information also. Right now he isn't thinking of doing much fishing. He has done some fishing trips in the past, but right now that is not what he is planning on using it for.
Thanks again. I will look here on IBoats too.
You guys are funny with your description of men. He has told me this for years. ha

I have a Garmin GPS/Sounder and love it, ti has a ton of features and can be set up anyway you want it as in it lets you pick 3 displays for every screen, on the split screen I have voltage-time and speed it is really cool and it should fit your budget and I agree to let him pick it out.

I gaurantee that is gonna beat the crap out of a tie or socks!

Re: Depth Finder Question

Thanks guys!! I made a choice. I went to Bass Pro Shop and decided to get it there, so it will be easy for him to take back if he wants to. I don't think he will want to. This is the one I went with. Tell me if I need to take it back.. ha

I loved the digital imaging on this one. Spent a little more for it, but oh well, he is the only husband I have and the kids seem to like him as a father. ha

I think he WILL like it better than a tie or socks! Oh... I would never buy him a new pair of briefs, but now ... boxer briefs... maybe!

He LOVED it!! He is very excited about getting it on the boat. I will update once we get it on and able to take it out!! He's keeping busy reading the manual for it and also reading his new book we got him. The History of Naval Aviation. He will read both from front to back. haha
Thanks for your help guys!!
