I have a 1987 21 foot Ski Centurion Barefoot with 1987 225 Evenrude outboard. The steering system is a Detmar 14' dual cable rack system and the cables are shot. I've searched the forums and understand that Detmar is out of business so I can't get replacement cables. From what I've read the best advise it to replace the helm and cables with a Teleflex system. That is fine, but with what? I like the Teleflex zero feedback but it is only a single cable system. Teleflex says it will work on V6 motors but I have my reservations. I like to drive the boat pretty hard, should I go with a dual rack system instead? Any advise would be appreciated!

Guess I should have done a little more homework before I posted. I just found this teleflex dual rack no feedback helm and cable system. It looks good, anyone think this is the best way to go? Thanks!

Can you suggest a good hydraulic system? would it make the boat easier to steer? that 225 is a heavy beast.

The Seastar looks really nice, thanks for the link. I've been battling that Detmar system for years! I'm glad I can't get cables anymore and have to upgrade.
I really appreciate this forum and the people who help out.
Thanks,
DC

Teleflex makes two types of hydraulic steering systems. Their cheap system works up to 150 hp. The expensive one is for over 150 hp. Either the hydraulic or no-feedback system will work. Compare the cost difference and see if the smoothness/drivability of the hydraulic system is worth the added expense. I run a great old Merc dual cable Ride-Guide system and will switch to hydraulic once one of the obsolete cables goes bad..
