Re: DHADLEY

First, in the intrest of safety, keep a close watch on the port stern bracket. With solid upper mounts in an E/J, the port stern bracket tends to split. The steering gets a little goofy when the motor falls off.

What have you done with the jetting? Without the airbox you should richen up by 12 to 15 numbers.

Re: DHADLEY

OK good. We always got the motors to run better/quicker running the airbox but thats OK for now. As long as you are rich enough it'll be fine.

Are you still running a 1987 powerhead? IE -- the small bore block?

Re: DHADLEY

The catch is to be positive youre running rich enough. If so Go to 18 degrees and test.

What spark plugs are you running?

Re: DHADLEY

Keep an eye on the long reach (Y) plugs with the cut heads. Let me know how you make out testing at 18 degrees.

Are you still running the small bore block?

Re: DHADLEY

Once we get into modified motors we really dont adjust the timing with a light. Once you have your starting point, which you do, we adjust it with testing. For every turn of the timing stop screw the timing will change approx 1 degree. Back the screw out 2 turns and test. This should be about 20 degrees. Be careful to start your jetting check at 2500 to 3000 and go up in small increments.

I would stick with straight gas and no addatives. I dont like to use cut heads. If you really want to be safe, use avaiation fuel. Its a low lead fuel usually around 100 octane. Or some type of race fuel. Whatever you chose, stick with it. Be consistant. You are getting ready to change everything else.

Re: DHADLEY

The Evolution intakes are pretty aren't they? The downside is that I dont think Marvin makes the reeds that are required anymore.

What this manifold does is align the reeds so they are centered in the passages in the front half of the block for better flow.

You can do the same thing with your stock manifold. To do this you will need a front half to bolt the manifold to so you can turn it around and look at the reeds as the proceedure is done.

Are you running in a class that has specific rules? If so, what are the rules and sanctioning body? OBDA? APBA?

Re: DHADLEY

NO RULES. ONLY V4's . YOU CAN DO EVERYTHING !!!
O.K., I WILL CHECK THE INTAKE, BUT ACTUALLY I'M USING A STOCK RUBBER COATED REED CAGES, THAT I WOULD LIKE TO BE MODIFIED OR MAYBE, TO BUY A SET OF PERFORMANCE ONES.

TOMORROW, I WILL MOVE MY TIMING TO 18 .

THANKS,
DON

Re: DHADLEY

Marvin is a friend of mine and his intakes really do help. But we've found that modifying (re-aligning) your reed cages work just as well. But his are way cooler looking!! If youre serious about buying one I'll see if I can find mine.

No rules, huh? That changes everything. What kind of budget do we have? We just went from making an SST100 powerhead to a Formula II.

Re: DHADLEY

I'll let you know next week. I'll look this weekend.

We never really had any problems with the E/J coils. We ran them over 9K with no problem.

Tell us about the fuel syatem in the boat. Are you using an electric pump?

So what is the budget anyway?
