i have a 2001 35 hp johnson. at first i wasnt sure if i had any spark in fact im almost 100% sure that i did not have any and that was why it would not start. so we went down to check again and we did have spark afterall. so we re-checked using a spark check and also took each plug out 1 by 1 to check gap and such.....when i got to the second plug i took the wire off of the plug and went about hooking up the spark tester. we turned it over and it fired right up. so we hooked it back up and it ran rough but it did run. after checking the third plug it wouldnt run anymore. it would start for a split second but die almost instantly. i also noticed that the ball pump was extremely hard i mean solid! we clearde it out and still no start. we didnt run it enough for it to get too hot to not run (we had that problem last summer it was a power-pack and it was replaced) i bought a shop book and a multi meter today but i have noo idea where to begin. the spark is pretty good looking so i dont think that is it anymore unless i touched something and this was all a fluke. TASHASDADDY told me to check the power-pack, stator, regulator/rectofier, being that we put a new power-pack in last summer that will be the last thing i check tommorow. where else should i be looking. dose this sound like a fuel problem? kinda right? not sure but i desperately need help! thanks in advance

Re: different problem from original symptoms

did you have good spark on all three, this is not clear. if you did, remove the air silencer, on front of carbs, now spray some premixed fuel into all 3 carbs, and see if it starts. if so you have a fuel problem. then when it quits, as it will, spray just one carb, and see if it fire on that cylinder, then go the next, do all three. if it still fires on all 3. it is definately fuel issue.

either clogged carbs, fuel pump, clogged pick up in tank, the bulb will stay hard until it runs a little while, for the carb bowls to start to empty, and refill.
