Re: Dodge Factory Receiver Hitch almost fell off!!

I wouldnt trash that hitch, just have it welded to the frame. My buddy had the same problem with a Dodge 1500 and he welded it to the frame and had no more problems.

I have had Dodges for company vehicles now for the last 3. They are absolute junk. Last one we put 3 transmissions in it in 100k, brake problems, engine knocks, shoddy electrical. This new one has allready been back to the dealer 3 times for electrical problems and it is only 3 months old, and has 8500 miles. My buddy with the 1500 I mentioned above had to have the engine rebuilt under warranty twice and the tranny once. My mother in law had a Chrysler LHS and she put more miles on the rental in the first 2 years than she did on her LHS. Sister had a Sebring, I cant even begin to tell you all the problems she had under warranty. She dumped that junker before it even got to the warranty end.

My Dad has a Lincoln Navigator Mark LT(the pickup version) and it has a very hard time towing our boat. My wife didnt want a large vehicle either, so we have a Trailblazer V8 EXT and it tows like a dream and 85k later it has not had any issues. Only thing we have done to it have been synthetic oil changes every 5k.

No idea what we are going to get next since GM has chosen to stop making a medium SUV that can tow 7300lbs. I guess we will keep this forever and buy the wife a Porsche or something next. It has been the best tow vehicle we have ever owned, hands down.

Hopefully it will turn out that the OP's truck does have the tow package he paid for--and whatever all else that includes--and the only thing he's been screwed out of is a $120 hitch. And hopefully the dealership will make that right, even after all these years. Dealerships do like the prospect of repeat business, don't they?

I myself had only have had 1 Dodge and it was a total piece of crap. I will never buy one again. Also around here 90% of the broken down vehicles on the interstate are Chrysler products with the other 10% a mix of all of the other makes.

The Dodge diesels - pre 2007 at least - have a good reputation. If it weren't so complicated to make the swap, I wouldn't mind one of those engines in my GMC 3/4 ton. That aside, Dodge has a well earned rep of body and mechanical problems. I won't bore you with the details of how Chrysler products have cost friends and family members lots of money. Now that FIAT has taken over, look out!!

I agree northern merc. The 12valve and original 24valve cummins turbos are unstoppable. Its just a shame that they are attached to a terrible tranny and surrounded by a sheet metal body. I used to want my ford chassis with a 12valve and an allison tranny. A combo like that would be indestructible.

The dually i traded for my gran torino was a 93 F350 that originally came with a 7.3 IDI. We lowered the compression put new pistons in and ported and polished it. I added a banks sidewinder turbo, holley electronic fuel pump, and locking diff. Also went 5:16 out back And had 3 inch down pipes that went to true dual 6 inch exhaust(no stacks).

That truck was a monster I used to make those little rice cars eat smoke in it but after all the mods it only got 6mpg!! I couldnt afford to drive it anymore.

My torino is almost as fast and gets 14mpg stock so i think it was a good trade.

How would it do against a healthy Chevy big block? I have a soft spot for the old 396's myself.

Depends what that big blocks in Haha. My Torino is a 13 second car. The Dually ran high 12s. My goal is to make the Torino a solid 12 flat car. Thats as fast as i wanna go.

WOW!!! Lots of Dodge bashin around here.

All I know is I used to one of Cheverolets biggest fans until I got my first Ram 10 years ago and I have never looked back.

My current 2500 with a Hemi pulled this Behemoth from the OBX to VA Beach and it never knew it was back there. And yes it has the factory tow package with a receiver.

The factory tow package that was on my 03 1500 was more of a bumper support than a hitch. It was just a bracket that came up under the bumper and had a plate that the ball hitch would bolt through it and the bumper.(no receiver)

The 03 1500 that I had I agree was a POS as far as the front suspension and 4WD. I hated the CV axles and the torsion bars suspension. Its a solid front axle or nothing from now on...
