No doubt that Boeing is a publicly traded company, so it could be owned by anybody from any country that has the ability to buy stock. That being said, the data plate on that big flying chunk of aluminum still says Made In USA.

I remember back in the early 90's that a Japanese company that I worked for owned a chunk of Boeing. Today its hard to tell as foreign corporate owners often hold stock through funds rather than under their corporate name. I prefer to buy domestic U.S. myself when economically feasible. But, as we all know....It's getting harder to do by the day.

I really don't care where the motor are made, there are idiot and lazy worker in every country. What's more important is the after sales support and parts availability.

Frankly, I have found some US made product to be very much lacking in quality. Especially those with big Made in USA logo. I'm guessing the mfg figure if they can win the customer over with quality, let's try sympathy. :D

Bad quality is NEVER due to the workers. Its because of Management cutting corners or not employing a quality management system.

I just had a roof installed (by US workers). When they were finished, a guy swept the area surrounding the house with a magnetic pickup tool his employer supplied. He missed a good 100 or so nails. I had to have the employer come by today with the same pickup tool just so I could go around all of the areas the first guy was too lazy or unconcerned to bother with. That is very much worker caused, as I used the exact same tool the employer supplied the employee. Heck, it even cost the employer added money simply because I forced him to help find nails for an hour, on top of driving out to my house (20 min each way).

Lazy workers exist and cause numerous ill effects for employers, no matter how well or poorly they train or prepare them. I've seen lazy people screw up the simplest of tasks simply out of lack of work ethic. I see being lazy at work as stealing from your employer, since you are getting paid for work you are no longer providing. There are lazy workers, and they cause plenty of issues with all types of goods and services. Employers are sometimes powerless to stop them, often via lawsuits or union contracts, sometimes simply by lack of workforce or employee personal issues.

I understand what you are saying, but you got a little off topic. The OP started a discussion about Products, and you are talking about Services.

But really when you think about it, the nails on your lawn is a prime example of a Management failure. The owner of the company failed to supervise, failed to train, failed to follow-up and most likely failed to hire the proper employees in the first place.

I hired the guy that replaced my roof because he was a local contractor, and a member of ther local business association. His price was by far not the lowest, but I knew for a fact that the owner would be there 100% of the time. When he left it was cleaner than when he got there.

The best made products are made in Union plants with an "ISO" on the front door.

"Quality Management" is more than just a buzzword - google it and see what its all about.

Try to stay with as much North American content as possible but sometimes you just can't do that.

My 2007 15 HP Mercury four stroke has a Yamaha powerhead and that is a good example right there. But that really does not bother me that much given Yamaha's reputation for reliability,...I now feel I can rely on Mercury now with a little help from Yamaha.

An 07 should be a Tohatsu design rather than the Yamaha/Mercury hybrid.

If you look under the cowling of my motor, the powerhead is a light blueish gray, which tells me it has to be Yamaha. Were it Tohatsu,it would be black or a really dark blue.

That color would definitely not be a Tohatsu...It's a little little odd though as Tohatsu began production in 06 on the 15 hp for Mercury...At least for some apparently:) Would you like me to run your serial number for a definitive answer?

Definitely a Yamaha block....On what looks like mostly a Tohatsu frame, with the standard Mercury modifications. You have a tribrid in stead of a hybrid:)

A tribrid huh? Three mfgrs all wrapped up into one,...that's something you don't see on a regular basis! Wow!

I am a homer and willing to pay slightly more for any product sold and/or made in my own town, or province/state or my country or america.

But nowadays It's difficult to say where it all comes from. My 1989 ford Tempo had Mazda written on many parts under the hood. Last Chrysler product had Mutsubishi written all over it. Go tell ...

But most of all I stay away from companies who use offshoring to supply services.

I don't know much about outboards, but I do have some experience with gas powered electric generators, I live in Florida, and the ones made in China are problematic and IMO - to be avoided. A well known national auto repair chain was selling them just before hurricane Katrina and the next morning, those who bought them were lined up bringing them back. The warranty won't help you when you really need it to work NOW. China is the only manufacturer I avoid and it has nothing to do with politics. Also I had bought a Chinese made gas scooter for my grandson that was a piece of junk. My aversion to China is limited to gas engines only.

I think that everyone would support the local economy if at all possible, but if you're buying an expensive product for the long haul I think most would go for the best quality not pick by country. You can't hardly tell anymore anyway.Made in "where ever" only means that it was partially assembled there.I know we're talking outboards, but look at Harley-Davidson they have way more Japanese parts on them than most people will admit.Honda Goldwings were assembled in Marysville,Ohio up until now.Production of the Goldwing is going back to Japan, but I doubt very much that the people in the US that ride/love their Wings will stop buying them because there not assembled here.Auto manufacturers are the same...the big three are all tied to Japanese manufactures and have been for some time.
Anyway I love my old Mercs and I never really gave much thought to where they were built. If I were to buy new I would probably stick with Merc just because they have been good to me.My dad and my brother on the other hand when they were still alive wouldn't have a Merc on their boat if it were free.

Country of origin??....good luck figuring that out.
Do you mean:
-Where the company is registered?
-Where the shareholders come from?
-Where the manufacturing is?
-Where the engineering is?
-Where the sales occur on a percentage basis or??
-Where the support dealerships locate?
-Where the company was founded and what name it currently holds for the public?

...maybe rethink and rework your question, these days this is a very, very, very, very murky question and situation.
