Re: Dog poop...

it is so popular because our dogs, have replaced the grown kids, they are part of our family. they are actually better than kids, they don't ask for money, or a car, they respect us, and usually do what we ask.

Ain't that the truth, We've got 4 boys and 1 dog.

4 boys = 1 pick up and 1 van totaled, plus snuck Mom's car of carport and hit my car in driveway.

4 boys = Dad, I need you to come bail me out of jail. (twice)

4 boys = Dad, I'm going to need the number for that lawyer again. (3 times)

4 boys = More money loaned/given than I even want to recall.

4 boys = 4 walking garbage disposals, Mom, there isn't anything to eat.

1 dog = A bag of Iams dog food every 2 weeks, a bag of Beggin Strips a week

I'll take the dog nowadays any time!!!!! :D

Re: Dog poop...

Use the poop pad. Start out by using a spray made to create the scent they need. Then, after the dog uses it, rinse it, but don't wash it. Now the scent is his and he will use it more readily.

During the first hurricane in '04, we had power while the winds were gusting to 90 and the heavy rain was coming down sideways. We were playing with the dog, and feeding him the treats he likes. Suddenly, he refuses the treats.
I said " maybe he's full and has to go"
Admiral said "you take him"
So, I go out on the enclosed patio. He is waiting by the door for me. I look at the rain coming down sideways, open the door a bit, and pushed him out. He goes under the boat, does his thing and returns to the door. I used the towels to dry him, and he goes right for the treats he left on the floor.
Most dogs will let you know when they have to go. Its just you have to recognize the sign.

I fondly remember taking my young cocker offshore for the first time many years ago. After about 3 hours she was so antsy you just knew she was really hurting. As I approached a thick weed line you could see her getting ready to jump onshore (as far as she knew), so I grabbed her by the collar told her what a good dog she was and she finally let loose on the bow casting platform. I decided in the future we would leave her home on offshore trips and just take her to the tidal flats around St. Lucie inlet where she could chase finger mullet's to her hearts content and go when and where she wanted to.

She's gone now but not forgotten

technically your dog crap in the lake would be pollution just like dumping your porta=poti so be watchful.
instead of cat trays, i use small cement mixing trays, cheaper and much stronger.

Look on Active Captain. They have an article about training your dogs to go on a piece of outdoor carpet.

Thanks, Dave...not only did I get a good read on training, but I now have a new site to visit! Have you posted any pictures of your new boat yet? I wouldn't mind seeing a few...

Not yet, Rick. I am a little challenged in that area.

what I do is feed the dog at night that way he is good to go in the morning.

the training pad idea is good but everyone around here just paddles the dog ashore in the dingy.
if you go out to sea why not just leave the dog at home with a sitter?

In the morning? We will be 30 miles off shore...

Paddling that dingy 30 miles might take a while...

No way...

Sorry, none of the above will work for us....;)
