doing a rewiring project need help identifying

This resistor looking wire is connecting the nav lights switch. to the bilge switch i believe. What si it for and do i need it?

Yes you need it. It is required on a three terminal Nav/Anchor switch. It is not needed on a six terminal switch. It is not a resistor. It is a diode. If you search the electrical forum you will find the diagram for these two types of switches posted many times.
