Replacing my buddies Volvo Penta DP-SM lower unit, he lost his entire gear set in the salt water....so his old case is not a candidate for rebuild.
I have a few questions, sense I have never changed or removed a Volvo Penta Lower unit, just not a lot of them in Charleston.
I took it off...and was shocked because of the notion that it shifts off of oil pressure...is this right?
I have to replace the Props...is there any special tool or Nut I need to reinstall the props?
I take it that I fill the lower unit and the outdrive through the top of the outdrive where what seems to be the only full plug is located? I understand the drain will be behind the props, correct?
What oil do I need to purchase, and how much will it take to fill it back up to the dipstick? I assume he lost it all.
