DP290 and B6 props

the story - found the only @#$#$@ rock in 5' of water in a sand bay - could have also been a sunken boat as it wasnt on any chart, or marked

the good - minor chips in the props, easily repaired

the bad - spun a hub on the rear B6 prop which then ate up the plastic washer.

anyone have a good list of the component part numbers?

I found this list by name, however would like part numbers so I can find and order them. any and all help appreciated in advance

The proper order then of the parts front to rear is:
1. Rear fish line protector (must fit inside anode)
2. Rear prop
3. Plastic washer
4. Tab washer
5. Spanner nut
6. Thrust washer (may/should be "stuck" inside the rear fish line protector)
7. Rear fish line protector
8. Rear prop
9. Plastic washer
10. Cone nut

Doug Russell Marine website has diagrams with part numbers. Go to dougrussell.com and click on their Parts Catalog on the left side down a ways. Then click Volvo, and then find your model and keep drilling in until you find what you need.


Here is a short cut to the Volvo listing, click AQ271A then ALL then you will see the lower unit listings for DP290 and DP-A.

Regarding that one washer that fits inside the rear line cutter, I have never seen it listed or called out separately anywhere, kind of odd because it is a key item in the spacing.

well, their e-commerce site isnt working. the checkout portion is FUBAR. I did score a set of B5's today for $500, and have the B6's being repaired.

still need another plastic washer and the front prop line cutter (as it was not there)

new set of props with only a few hours on them and getting cavitation burn on the front side of the rear prop. the old props had a really bad set of cavitation burns. Is this common problem with the DP's? two other people I know have the same problem with their drives and props

I believe that can be caused by the props being out of timing so to speak. Not so much timing them, more like clocking them when installing so no 2 blades from each prop pass under the cav plate at the same time. I experienced that edge burning and clocking the props fixed it. I have posted this on other forums, I thought I had here also but just did a search and could not find it, so here it is again from the other site I posted on...

"Volvo seems to have no position on this, and there is no key way or other mark to go by on the props or the shafts. My research found some reasons for clocking them so both blades do not pass under the anit-cav plate at the same time. There is no downside and it is simple to do. Put the big prop on with a blade straight down, and the small prop on with one blade straight up. They turn at the same rpm so they will always pass like that under the plate.
