Drained the water fuel seperator - Thoughts?

I have a new to me boat and she runs great.

I clean the carb fuel filter everytime after I take her out and usually find a small amount of stuff in it. Im big on preventative maintenance and I like working on the boat.

I put on a new water/fuel separator filter when I got the boat, and I drained it today to check for water. Here are pics of what I found. I let it settle for 15mins. No water found, which is good, but it had a large amount of crud in it. Look normal?

I am still on the first tank of gas in this boat (The tank is massive).

For now I plan to just keep changing fuel filters till I stop seeing this.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

I really don't want to tear up my new floor to clean out the tank.

Doesn't look too bad to me. I'd get in the habit of changing those filters every year and not worry about it.

Thanks superbenk. I opened and removed the fuel sending unit. The tank looked very very clean inside and I'm not too worried now. It also let me verify my fuel guage it spot on correct.

That's what e-10 fuel does......cleans out the crud. It should clear up. Keep a spare filter on hand ;)

I agree Bob_VT.

I considered rigging up an electronic fuel pump to a filter, and running an intake and return hose into the tank and just letting all the fuel cycle thru it. Probably too extreme of a plan, but it would quickly solve my problem.

Fuel tanks will have a small amount of crud in them, thats just how it is, and why filters are needed, and like said change it out once a year and keep a spare on hand and go boating.

I agree MH Hawker. You know how it is on a "new to me boat"...you check and question everything more than you probably should.

Ayuh,... If that tablespoon of water is the most ya see, you Don't really have a Problem,...

just keep up with it, by occasionally changin' the filter, 'n recheckin' it's contents,...

If the tank was just alittle bit bigger I could just use a pool cleaner in it.

Thanks again for telling me this is normal and not to worry. I will carry a spare filter onboard.
