Genlemen, I am sure many of you has done this before, but I cannot rase the hand (and drill) to make a hole in the transom. I want to secure the outboard, so it cannot be stolen easily. So I was thinking of drilling though the hull and either using one of those outboard locks or runni ng a steel rod though it and capping it off at both ends. Also the question is for sealing the hole afterwords. I do not want to wet the wood inside, but I am not sure if I can seal the hole inside the transom 100%.
Does anyone know if there is still wood in transom of new Sylvan fishing utility boats?

3M 5200 sealant will seal anything. It is permanent, though...so trying to get it off afterward would be chore.

Some guys will drill hte hole, then core out some of the wood leaving the outer skins of fiberglass in place. Then fill the void and even the hole with an epoxy. Then redrill hte epoxy. This essentially seals the hole and adds some additional strength. You could use a penetrating wood sealant to treat the wood if you didn't want to go that far. Let the sealant dry, then run your bolt and your 4200 or 5200 to seal the hole itself.

That is an interesting idea, I will just have to drill the hole a bit larger than the bolt. That works and it will be removable. I am still not sure if there is wood inside of the transom :)
