I let my 2000 DT-100 sit for 6 months because of health issues. Got it started after draining fuel system.

Have 2 issues. In tracking fuel flow noted that no fuel is going through the starter valve. Even with the manual release. Is this a servicable part or should it be replaced. Assume the needle valve is clogged or frozen.

2nd while it runs when I put in gear it immediately stalls.

Engine is on a 32 ft power tri on the water. Need to get running to get to ramp to haul to work on it.

Shop manual says possible cause is rusty shaft bearings. Anyway to free these without tearing down lower housing to access shaft.

TIA

Re: DT-100

I would remove the primer assy and the carbs for cleaning and try again. usually if its the lower and its so rusty it stalls the engine the starter wont crank it in the first place.
anytime the drive shaft turns the pinion, fwd and reverse gears are turning. the only thing that chages when you shift is you lock the propshaft to whichever gear was selected.

Re: DT-100

Since posted I changed the plugs and with the plugs out in gear rotated the engine by rotating the prop so the shaft is not frozen. Is all gunked needle valves.

Put in carb cleaner and more clean fuel ( had drained the tank of old fuel and emptied all lines.)

Having it run now. Still died but did get a brief prop push so making progress.

I agree on the need to clean both but the engine is on a bracket 2 ft behind the transom and working on it is a major problem. If was on trailer in drive no problem. But to get to ramp and on trailer, need it to run . Sort of a catch 22.

Thanks

Len

abd thats why for 110 dollars a year or so TOWBOAT US is such a good buy.
keep running it with clogged jets and you may get to buy a piston while cleaning the carbs, I do them on toons and brackets on the water all the time. just dont drop anything :)

Re: DT-100

no I am 45 and my artheritis was sever enough the USN retired me.
but you will need to clean the carbs before continuing or find someone that will tow you.
preferably someone with a stern drive as your gonna idle a long ways.
its either that or find a competent tech that can crawl out on the bracket.
so I know how joints dont bend and if you get them bent sometimes they wont unbend.
I work about 25 hours a week now due to it. thats why I have so many posts here.
today is killing me.

Re: DT-100

Well went to shut down and for the heck of it popped in and out of gear a few times, didn't stall and right now have fwd and reverse working so the cleaner must have helped.

Moving up to Near Louisburg NC in April. Maybe can share a beer. My knees tossed me out of service at 25 and lived with since .

Only have to go 2 miles to ramp.

Virtually impossible to find a Suzuki tech here abouts and to make a field service no way.

Had a bolt come loose on starter and jam under flywheel and Had to pay 200 for a truck boom to pull the engine and take it in and was 90 days old.

Re: DT-100

kinda the same here. I do a bit of mobile work, especially in cases like yours. it just costs a bit more.
until your sure of the carbs dont make any high speed runs.
most the mobile marine techs here are untrained and usually create more issues than they solved.

2 miles at SLOW ! Yes Sir thats the plan.

Just hope next weekend is sunny and light wind and not 30's and 30 mph like last weekend

Took 3 "techs" over 6 months to get the idle set up on this engine, and they suceeded in destroying the wiring harness, and a few other things in the process.

I'm basically a sailor and will be going back to sailing when this boat leaves here.

http://www.trikini.com

Re: DT-100

sounds like some of the techs here, they have a big tool box and no clue. most are terrified of usuing test equipment or logical procedures the rest cant interpet what the equipment is telling them.
but suzuki's are very simple and will usually trouble shoot themselves if you know what each subsystem does and how it interacts with the other.
usually if an ign component fails it either wont spark, wont advance the ign timing or will lock the ign at 11*BTDC and idle fast.
its actually a fairly simple system if you know what the components are what they do and why they are installed.

Re: DT-100

Had a 140 on a 32 passenger commercial water taxi for manatee trips and it was a good engine. Had a 25 and a 40 also that ran for years w/o problems, but this DT-100 bought new in the box and has never been right.
Paid Techs, even dragged it into shop and still not right. Got it going and kept it going DIY but it isn't like the others. Neighbor has a 140 on a lift boat. comes down for holidays and a few timesduring year. Sits for 6 months and 1/2 hour after they get here is putting down the canal without a problem.

Like Suzuki but the local dealers for them have all dropped them.

Probably won't buy another when I need a fishing boat motor next summer.

Re: DT-100

cant blame ya. the 90 and 100 had very very touchy carbs, not that the other mikunis were not touchy but the V 4 cyl motors seemed more so.
in my area there is really not suzuki service either, a few dealers but no real service.
