Nah. Usual nibbles but the reality is that only bream and blackfish bite when the water temperature is so low - about 13 degrees or so. Got through $15 worth of bait and will have another go tomorrow. The good guys are catching a few but I'm a crap fisherman! BTW - the cricket's looking good... for you guys! Why did Shane play that stroke? D'Oh!

Yes, well done to England. What do people think of teams using "specialist" fielders as substitutes... 10 regulars and an infinite choice of subs. Isn't that what the 12th man is for?
Also Warne nearly did it. Bring on The Oval. :)

Yes, a deserved win but the fat lady is still in the dressing room. It ain't over 'til it's over.

Teach Tait to hit SOMETHING and get rid of the blind umpire - then we may have a chance.

Bring it on!!!

AUSSIE!! AUSSIE!! AUSSIE!!

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

Good on you for winning England.

I will put my neck out and ask the obvious.......
Is England actually playing brilliantly well, or are the Aussies playing brilliantly badly?

The 2nd test was one England just about played to loose on the last day. I couldn't believe they let a handful of Aussie Bunny's do that well. How could England not win?
The 3rd test was similar to the 2nd in the final day. How could England not win?
The 4th test, how can a team get so far ahead and go so close to failing at the end.

Personally I am at 6's and 7's as to who is actually the better team, or are we seeing a competition of an Aussie team all at sea and floundering around being only just beaten by an English team.
The way the Aussies are playing, the score should be 3-1, and so decisive that the last 3 games would have been called boring.

Yes, it has been exciting cricket, probably the best test cricket we have seen in many a year, but it does bring back memories of school day cricket when the best games were always between the 2nd 11's or the 3rd 11's.

If just 2 Aussie batsmen hit their straps in each innings in the final test, I reckon England can kiss their jacks goodbye. If the Aussies can't, then England deservedly wins the Ashes.
Until then, I'm with you Aldo.
Cheers
Phillip ;)

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

No Shouting Please!

I'm not feeling very well today, celibrating into the early hours.

Well we made a bit of a meal of that, but I think the best side won.

Aldo, I am tending to agree with you about the umpires, I think that maybe for high profile matches like these the umpires should use the available technology for LBW calls, I watched every ball of the last 2 days and kept a note on the LBW shouts. There were 17 appeals over the 2 days, 3 were given by the umpires, out of the 14 that were given not out 8 were shown to be out by hawk eye, out of the 3 given 1 was not out (but you didn't need hawk eye to tell you that, one of the wost decisions I have seen).

I don't think its fair on the umpires to force them to make a split second decision and then to pick fault using TV replays etc, if this technology is to be used to judge the umpires then it should be made available to help them make thier judgement.

As a footnote to this semi rant I would like to say that the caught behide shout against Jones just after lunch on day 2 was the right call, snicko showed that the bat hit the ground.

Now to the Oval, I just hope that this game will live up to the hyp that is already being put about. People are saying that it is the most important sporting event on English soil since we won the football world cup in 1966. I hope so, I've got tickets to 4&5 :D :D

COME ON ENGLAND

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

I missed the best bit, Watched the TV until about 9.30 Sunday night, looked like it would be a fairly tame win by the Poms so I hit the hay.

Next morning turn on the radio, what a finish.
Well done Poms, but we are not finished yet, I think that the Aussies will make it look easy at the oval.

I dont however agree with pontings outburst, I understand that the Poms let their 12 man play for his county and pick a couple of fielders that are not playing for their clubs, methinks that the aussies could learn a lesson from this, how many times did Brett Lee carry the drinks last season when he could have been playing for his state.

RPJS:
what about your winning the World Rugby Cup.
That was a pretty important win, especially considering the size of the sport and the tournament.
My BIL is a coach with one of the Super 12 Teams, plus a Provincial Team, and I thought he told me the Rugby Union World Cup is the 2nd biggest sport event in the world. The biggest event is the Soccer World Cup. He gave reasons for the Olympics being the 3rd biggest event, but can't recall them.
So.....it hasn't been that long since you won something important on the world sporting stage.
A win in the Ashes should do wonders for English sport.
Cheers
Phillip

Wow KP you sure? We had both the RWC and the Olympics here in Sydney and the Olympics was a WAY bigger deal. But then again the RU games were played in South Africa too, so maybe it was bigger than it looked here. Be interesting to see the stats on both!

Sorry Phillip I didn't make myself very clear.

The Oval match will be the biggest sporting event that has been held in England, its been a long time since we won somthing important at home.

As for the rugby world cup, that was the biggest thing ever (IMHO) :D :D .
Only to be bettered when we win it again.

In terms of live spectators, the Tour De France is by far the largest sporting event in the world. It has beaten the olympics since 1992.

TV spectators, Olympics.

In terms of participation (number of countries), World Cup Soccer.

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

Yes, I understand now RPJS.

Goodness ,you don't think you are going to win it again do you. That was a great tournament and it was good to see England win.
My cousins in Cornwall are Union mad, and all been good rep players too, so you may say i hear a lot about English Rugby.
I do hope the administrating body can have the foresight to make major structural changes to it though, as it is a bit of a farce at the moment.
I understand it would be a better tournament if it was divided in to possibly 3 divisions at the beginning, with a Plate for the winner of each division, followed by a play off for the Cup.
I also understand the distribution of funds to participating teams should be adjusted. When certain Pacific countries can play better than some of the major European Nations and recieve insufficient money to sustain themselves while the European Nations teams who play poorly yet recieve quite substancial amounts.
The other 2 points concern some teams whose players literally have to pay their own travel and accomodation and other teams who are unable to field their best players as they are contracted to European Club teams who refuse to release them for the World Cup.
This Cup is always going to be a major international event, but it could be improved apon to make it more exciting and balanced event.
I am probably 'one-eyed' but I always look forward to the games with a Pacific Nation involved. Rugby at its best.
Good luck to you at the Oval though.
Cheers
Phillip
