Hmmm, this is the point I raised earlier - should teams be allowed to have endless substitute fielders - that's what Ponting was beefing about.

Its always gone on, I think it was Lillie who started the ball rolling, he used to go for a shower & change of shirt after each spell.

I don't think he was a sore loser as such. More likely he has a lot of pressure on him at the moment,(remember what happend to the last Aussie captain who lost the Ashes).

One thing for certain, the army are going to be giving him a hard time at the Oval. ;) ;)

Hi Aldo

He was run out when Clark called him for a quick single to the covers, it was one of the best bits of fielding I have seen for a long time (even Johnty wounld have been proud) the problem was it was Pratt who was the fielder, on as sub for Jones who was in hospital having xrays on his ankle.
While waiting for the decision Ponting had a go at one of the umpires then having been given out he had a right go at Hoggard as he left the field, then as he walked under the England dressing room he directed a verbal torrent at Fletcher.

Yeah, he had a right old carry on, but, IMHO, no right to carry on in that fashion. The substitute fielder thing interests me... Surely that is what the 12th man is for and it was the 12th man who used to field for Lillee when he had his post bowling break.

If you remember the first test, an aussie (in England playing county cricket) came on and fielded for England for a short time (10 minutes I think).

What's with that????????????

Heard some interesting UK media about cricket. Seems an eminent journalist believes cricket is at the forefront of the news and it's bad for the game because once the high level of coverage dies down after the test series that football will come back with a vengeance. The commentator seems to think UK's cricket mania is a temporary thing induced by the team's temporary trip to the top of World cricket...

Triton,

Certainly football will come back to the sporting headlines at the end of this test series, after all it will mark the end of the cricket season over here. The test squad will then get a short break before heading off on a tour of Pakistan which will not recieve the same amount of coverage as this series for 2 reasons.

1 A winter series against Pakistan does not have the same historic value as an Ashes series with you Aussies.

2 The tour series will be being played at the height of the home football season along with World Cup qualifiers for the Home teams.

However we will then move on to the cricket world cup in the WI, the England team will be going with very high hopes of winning then there is the small matter of an ashes tour of Australia which, if the numbers who have pre booked tickets is anything to go by, I think you might be in for a shock at the amount of support the England team have over there. (The wife and I are pre booked for the last 2 tests at Melborne and Sydney).

Your comment about this being a temporary trip to the top of world cricket is a bit of wishfull thinking, this England team are very young and will stay together for a long time, with plenty of new talent knocking at the door, I think that we a witnessing the begining of a long run of England domination in the cricketing world.

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

Well here we are, the summer almost over and the eve of the final test match of the series.

It's going to be hard for the Aussies to salvage a series draw, the weather forcast is not good over the weekend and I think that the better part of a day lost to rain along with the best batting track in England the probable result of this one will be a draw.

Simon jones being unfit is a blow to England, but the good thing about being at home is that you have the choice of replacements, I fancy England will pick Collingwood, he can bowl a bit and is a damn good bat, with only a draw required to win the series we do not have to bowl teh Aussies out twice so we do not need to replace Jones with a front line strike bowler.

Its good to see McGrath fit to play, the chances are this will be his last test over here, along with Warnie, and it would be a shame for him not to take an active role.

Good luck to both teams (maybe a little more to England)

Bring On Tomorrow!!!!!!!
