I heard a good comment today
"half the men in England spent the last day of each Test hiding behind the Couch with their fingers in their ears"
Cheers
Phillip

It looks like God realy is an England fan.

I've just checked the weather forcast and they have 80% chance of rain on Sat & Sun.

OK so I'll be just a little bit upset at not seeing any play on Sunday, but I don't mind standing in the rain with the rest of the army if it means an England series win and the Ashes coming back to thier rightfull home.

"I'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain. What a glorious feeling winning the Ashes again"

It goes on but this is a family forum :D :D

To the tune of "The pub with no beer!" and with profound apologies to Slim Dusty.

Oh I went off to England - on a one-yearly ticket,
But the Poms are all whingers, they can't even play cricket...
And the beer stinks, it's brown - yeuk, and cloudy not clear...
Oh there's nothing so dreadful as warm Pommy beer!

This was written in 1985 on the spur of the moment in a piano bar in Edmunton, Canada and was performed by the resident piano player. I had to hide from my colleagues (all Poms) for fear of being lynched! Thems were the days lads! :D

I cant work it out, Ponting appears to be playing for a draw. Why did he appeal for poor light? Doesent he realise that if the game is a draw then the Poms win the Ashes?
I can remember when Ian Chapell was captain of Sout Oz, He had to win a sheffield shield game and kept batting in the belting rain(now Im showing my age)!!
THE AUSSIE WAY IS TO KEEP PLUGGING.

whaley,

Non more suprised as me when Langer & Hayden took the light when it realy wasn't that bad. Maybe they are looking at another weather forcast to the rest of the world. They have now set a standard for the match & even if its not raining the England batsman will be able to ask for bad light.

The Aussies are now going to need a mirical to win this match.

"You can't win when it's raining, you can't win when its raining, la la la la. la la la la."

"You can't win when it's raining, you can't win when its raining, la la la la. la la la la."
Gee RP, that's really in the spirit of the game? I would be thinking - "they're still 96 behind and only two days left. That's putting even more pressure on the Aussies to win - come on sun - out you come, England could win this one too!"

whaley - you're dead right about Ponting - he's made so many stuff ups and now won't even accept the responsibility for it - his statement: "it's not my fault" is 100% wrong. He elected to bat at Egbaston. He told the batsmen they could take the light. He's stuffed up big time and he knows it - he should be big enough to take the responsibility and motivate his men. Making excuses is very demotivating. Let's just hope the weather comes good and he can prove me wrong. I'd put in Gilchrist and Warne next and have a huge slogfest to try and make 500 then put the Poms in with Lee and McGrath (and Warne of course) all fired up. Don't think it'll happen, but it's a thought.

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

The morning of the last day.

I,ve just got back from London after yesterday at the match.

The great English weather made the Aussie batsman look a bit iffy, I don't think they could see the bowler running in, let alone the ball it was that dark, you can,t take anything away from Freddie & Hoggard they bowled like men posessed.

The weather forcast for today is not much better than yeserday & there's no way England are going to bat if they don't have to, I think the writting is on the wall as far as this match and the series goes.

Regardless of todays result I have to say tha this has been the best Ashes series I have ever seen. I also got to see McGrath & Warne bowl in this country for the last time if only briefly yesterday so I am a very happy man. :D :D :D

Warne, last time??

Isn't he planning on playing summer county cricket?

If light and rain allows, Warnes' bowling today should (hopefully!!) go down in the history books as the best bowling ever - 9 for 120. O/k, maybe 8 for 120 . :p

Sorry Aldo, I should have said international cricket.

I would love to see Warne get 10 for 150 off 36 overs, that would give England a 200/250 lead with 20 overs left in the day, the way Frieddie is bowling I can't see the Aussies scorring at 10 an over.

I don't think this will happen, I get a feelling that Vaughn is going to bat the day out. :)

Well done guys, It was a riviting last day. Warnie was bowling well and Pietersons batting was worth staying up late to watch.

Who would think that an american boating website would have a thread about cricket, mainly posted by Aussies and Brits.
This has been one of the longest running threads on iboats 5 pages that may even go into 6.
I have enjoyed chatting with you guys over the last few months.
Now I'll go and cry!!

Gutted! :( :( :(

BTW: Great series and good for cricket - especially in the UK. Now RP, just remember, the Ashes are just on short term loan until our summer 2006/7. Enjoy it while you can.

RP

Have to say that England deserved to win the series, they played the better cricket and had more players that contributed on a regular basis.

16 years is a long time and at least now I can look forward to the rematch.

Enjoy the next 16 months.

Like Arnie says "we'll be back" :)

GR

Ps long but great post

If you make it to the Sunshine State RP, I will buy you a beer. I am serious about that. (Brisbane)
Good on you for winning. It was a great series, probably the best I can recal. You certainly deserved your win.
Now for a bit of fun: I guess the Team will be off to the Palace to be congratulated by the Queen.
And.......how many Knighthoods do you reckon will be handed out.
I reckon we should take bets on this.
I'll start by saying 3. The Coach, The Captain, The all-rounder.
Any advances?
Cheers
Phillip

You've got to be English to qualify for a knighthood, its a good thing that the ICB has it,s own set of rules ;) ;)

I don't think there will be any new members of the relm, maybe a few MBE's. Thier not the first team to win after all.

Triton I'm looking forward to that beer.

Sorry Phillip I can't get enough time off to get to Brisbane, Christmas & New year only, there's going to be a good week between the 2 tests so maybe we can meet up then.

Aldo, The plans have not been finalised yet, but we are planning to get to Melboune 2 days before Christmas stay for the Boxing day test and then make our way over to Sydney for the final test.
